Alphabet - GOOG - Share Chat

This is an example of how bad Search is now.

Why on earth would a Pakistani AI slop site rank on the first page for Dublin Halloween?

I saw this but didn’t realise it was AI search that pulled this little ‘gem’ up.

I’ve moved a lot of my search to Chat GPT, where I want an answer to a question - as you can ask follow ups. It’s not perfect but it’s leagues better than the mess that is Google now.

For decades googles ad business is one of the only divisions they consistently delivered. Everywhere else (excluding cloud and YouTube) else you got got fancy announcements before the product was killed quietly a few years later. Maybe the bell is now tolling for search.

Glad I opened a new position when it dipped. Best two days in a decade for Alphabet!

Although Google missed on Cloud revenue, its growth has been impressive. By the way, it seems they missed because Google Cloud has capacity-constrains (like Azure), but it’s about to obtain new capacities this year. So this is likely to maintain the revenue growth.

I loaded up when it was a lot lower due to regulatory concerns and still believe it’s a great company to hold long term.

People are worried that LLMs could disrupt Google Search, but they shouldn’t. Google Search grew 21.64% in 2024, compared to 2023. It holds > 93% market share. Just for comparison, ChatGPT holds 0.25% market share in search-like prompts.
