This particular kit cost around Ā£22-Ā£23 but included some kit, ie fermenting bucket etc. Now that I have the kit, I will reuse and the malt next time will cost Ā£9.

In the past, I used to brew big batches, like 40 pints for around Ā£30. Might be more expensive now, not checked.

Thats very good value. And a nice hobby.

Beer has got so expensive in recent times.

Actually I read that here in Belfast, we have the second most expensive average pint price in the UK after London.

I cant remember the exact figure, but its certaintly not uncommon to pay Ā£6-7 a pint in a Belfast pub.

Apparently some towns in England are still under Ā£3.

Needless to say I usually drink at home

Itā€™s Ā£6-7 in Manchester city centre and not much cheaper out of town. Those sub Ā£3 a pint arenā€™t where I am  Not even sure itā€™s that cheap in a 'Spoons!

We really need to find these towns, I no longer remember the days I could buy a pint under Ā£4! :joy:

Prices are crazy!

Saying that, my son just sent me his table number and an SOS for a drink in wetherspoons in Belfast City Centre.

I sent him and his pal 2 pints and 2 shorts with mixers for under Ā£16. So i guess venue means a lot.

The hotel a few doors up is more like Ā£7.50 a pint

Manchester is a great night out. Only been once but I loved it. (2016)

I must come back over soon. Maybe you can give me some local tips next time

I remember coming down from Glasgow to London and being shocked by a Ā£2 pint :older_man:

Yeah I remember a new fangled Budweiser tap they had the cheek to charge Ā£1.90 a pint for!

Though some old codger will be along to tell us when it was 3 and 6 pence and you could afford 10 pints after work every night

It is a good night out, quite spoilt for choice and once in town, everything is pretty much within walking distance.

I think the price of a pint should be displayed clearly on the pump, i think it has to be displayed somewhere in view by law but its rare to see it. I used to love wandering around London having a pint in different areas but at Ā£6-7 a pint iā€™d rather not, still some places around a fiver and not just spoons. Rents and higher wages play a big part in London not sure what the excuse for Belfast is.

Agree with the idea of more transparent pricing.

Belfast is generally expensive it seems, but particularly for alcohol.

The bars are always rammed, we do like a drink, so I guess its market forces above all.

If you put prices up and they keep coming, you keep raising prices until it hurts business.

Also we have massive amount of tourists all year. Constant stream of cruise liners stopping over in our very convenient lough.

Just over Ā£4 for a Leffe in my local spoons, Carling, etc under Ā£3.

Venture into Newcastle and looking at over Ā£6.00 a pint now.

I like craft beer and donā€™t begrude paying for a decent pint but some city centres are becoming eye wateringly expensive.

A lot of people make the mistake of paying for the beer as they go along. In rural areas including the towns I generally pay at the end of the night IE put on a tab. The advantage is you donā€™t know what each pint cost and you donā€™t care at the end of the night.
