Perhaps Freetrade should have left instant trades at £1 for anyone who had traded before and made them free for new users.
I’m paying for FT Plus, I’ve put £400 on my account so I get around £12 back. It pays for Plus then.
There are plenty of quality stocks available not in the Plus service for a small investor to be entertained for many years.
I’m in exactly the same boat.
Less than £5k invested (literally all I have saved from min wage jobs) and I’ve been a member since early on (first 12,000).
I’ve been a member of other fin tech start ups and basically all of them have offered a grandfather scheme to reward early investors.
90% of my holdings are now behind a paywall and it’s just frustrating.
£4000 - not 400…
If I keep £400 cash, I get 3% Interest?
Annually - not monthly. £4000 saved in your account gives you £120 back a year.
Yes, but £400 x 3% is only £12 per year, whereas Plus costs you £10 per month. You would need £4,000 sitting in cash in your account to cover the annual cost of Plus.
Oh I thought Per month
3% per month- I wouldn’t even bother buying any shares if that were the case!
That would be a 42.5% annual rate. Sign me up!
Feeble stock market with its 8% yield.
Freetrade has to generate regular income so I more than welcome premium options. This platform is much cheaper than others; much more cheaper.
However, I would complain regarding their decision enforce Plus on stocks of which a user has already invested in before this option ever existed.
Welcome to the community! Fund your account with 4K and FT Plus becomes free.
Or invest the 4K and make more money
Thst is probably the savviest thing to do…
You can’t transfers shares into an ISA (with only a couple of special exceptions) so liquidating your GIA shares is standard practice if you wish to move them to an ISA
This is same as every other fintech startups out there. They all do cash only transfers-out.
I do no expect Freetrade to offer all the bells and whistles of a large established and profitable broker.
Transfer out is transparent (from the FT pricing page):
As noted above, transfer of stocks from gia to ISA is not permitted under the ISA rules, it’s not a Freetrade limitation:
Hi Claire, can you give some examples of “pricing issues” you seem to have? I’d like to try and look up some examples of where you might think you’re getting incorrect prices rather than “best execution” at the time of your trades.
