In terms of fundamentals, the only thing that AMC and GME have in common is that they were aggressively shorted. GME has high-quality people at the helm, has cash in hand and appears to be moving towards a really interesting high-tech space. AMC is heavily indebted and doesn’t appear to be transitioning its business to fit the future.
But squeezes aren’t really about fundamentals. The story here (if you care to believe it) is quite simple. Both stocks have been outrageously oversold in an attempt to drive the companies into bankruptcy. How this will play out remains to be seen but don’t imagine for a moment that the story is over just because it isn’t front page news in the financial media.
