Persimmon has had a terrible year v their peers.

Wow, that’s stark. What happened? I don’t follow the company. Last I looked at the housebuilders a good few years ago now, there wasn’t much to choose between TW and PSN although the latter has a history of paying obscene bonuses etc.

Is now the time to buy? Could there be a rebound or do their competitors look more appealing

It’s my industry but I don’t really study the competition from an investment standpoint. I have worked/work for 3 of the companies on that graph.

Persimmon has a poor reputation and isn’t a destination anyone I know would seek out when looking for a new job.

They have built their business being the cheapest houses in all aspects and that was great for investors all the while help to buy hose was on they just smashed targets. Now the market is much tougher (with rising inflation costs and material cost pressure) their offering just isn’t as appealing.

Independent national quality of developers can be seen by the number of NHBC’s pride in the job awards given. The NHBC (warranty provider for most new homes) completes an inspection and judges everything from quality to safety and presentation. You can see they just don’t win many, remembering they have as many or more sites as Taylor Wimpey, Barratt Homes, and Vistry.

They have a noticeable amount less cash on hand to weather the next 12/18 months storm.

Deliver concrete to all the major house builders as well as some small local building firms. Wouldn’t touch a Persimmon house. Even the brickies etc on site say they’re built as cheaply as possible and are crap. One estate near us is having problems with the bricks (Persimmon made) not being made properly.

Happy Dividend day everyone.
It’s good to see some nice rises in SP in the last few days. I hope along with the rises in the market this is a sign of increasing confidence in the wider market, experience tells me it’s a blip but I’ll enjoy it while it lasts :). Either way I’m not buying or selling any shares in PSN.
I wonder if we will ever see 25 per share again?
Personally I would be happy for it to hit the early teens and stay there.

Same day payment of dividend. Thumbs up to Freetrade

Apparently PSN are aiming to build 500 more homes than initially estimated (9500 in total).
Hopefully this will result in an increased dividend next year. I’m hoping at least 60p but 80p would be better

@acamp

PSN app link to a closed topic - can it be swapped?

Thanks on It!

Morning all.
Another day another rise. I’m very happy to see profit again. I wonder if we will get a bigger dividend this year?
It would be amazing if we went back to the good old days of 2.35 per year dividend. All I can say is thank god we didn’t have any debt when we went into this downturn

Hi Hyseb, how many shares are you holding ? I’ve noticed that you are a regular poster is psn a big part of your portfolio ?

Hello DogTod, thankyou for your message. I do post a lot on FT forums just to keep me sane :).

PSN is my biggest holding, I have 331 shares. Unfortunately I started buying at 25 and been topping up ever since (I bought a few at 10 quid).

Others are catching up now, I haven’t bought PSN shares for a longtime, I now wish I’d bought some with the last dividend!

I bought my PSN in 2021, currently down over 52%

Fortunately, only a small holding, I leave it in my portfolio to remind me that I don’t always know what I’m doing!

Oh weenie :slightly_frowning_face:
Stick with them, they’ll come good.
I invested 1k in ABF 2.5 years ago they lost a third now up slightly

PS edit - if it makes you feel better I’m down 242 quid on vodafone shares first bought in April :man_shrugging:

Hello All another nice rise in Persimmon this morning.
Anyone got an idea why, have Persimmon released some good news this morning?

Only speculating (nee guessing)- general market and the fed hinting at lowering interest rates next year. Guess housebuilders stand to benefit more than hte average ftse share.

Not if the UK government further restricts housing supply. Housebuilders are struggling with the planning system as it is and its likely to get worse soon from the reports.

Hi Wulfy, please post your source that the UK government is going to restrict housing supply.
I’d like to take a read of it.
