It’s possible that the Android version on your old phone is not version 7 or above, which is the minimum compatibility for the Freetrade app.
Although not ideal, when I was in a similar situation (due to incompatibility), I bought a cheap (£50) phone which I used solely to access Freetrade, until my phone was upgraded.
