Rio Tinto - RIO - Share Chat

Hi. Just wondering how many people on here own this stock and if you do are you holding a good amount?

Its always so quiet for a company that usually tops the profit charts for the uk100.

It happens to be my biggest holding even though I do buy I to the snp500, all world etc I seem to of got carried away with rio haha

I have 15 shares, first 10 bought May 21

Shares down 61 quid, dividends received 186

Sorry I forgot to say that I didn’t mean people tell me like their holdings or cash values just with a yes I’m holding a good amount or not. It must be one of these stocks that not many talk about.

Ahh it’s was a recent tumble their thst lost me some profits, sure I was up way over £200 before it dropped can’t remember Nd now £80 or so

Hi Kiava, I’ve traded Rio a few times and done quite well out of it. I’ve been able to buy at the 46 mark and sell at 53 ish.

Haven’t been in for a while although we will always need Raw materials so your investment is pretty secure :).

I would consider buying again if I caught them under the 50 mark.

Ahh sweet, so you never hold onto this stock is it just a buy sell type stock for you? I have notice it does do it’s climbs and falls in a decent pattern so I guess I can see why you would.

I thought about it as well when people told me this stock was cynical but for now I have just held and went with the rise and fall

I got some in for the long haul, doubt that I would ever sell. I see mining stocks as a buy when they are down (I have a limit that I would buy at) and then reap the dividneds when they come in. In terms of capital I’m down just under 1%, but in terms of dividends and capital I’m +18%. Similar with Glencore, the recent dividend cut didn’t bother me and instead lead me to buy more, because they will ramp back up in the future when they don’t have the ability to spend the money other than giving it back to shreholders when the profits ramp back up. As I’m not au fait with timings the only way I can ahve the upswings is to buy and hold.

That’s sweet yeah even with the massive drop we just had I’m up 11.31% I think not sure I calculated it correct as it never adds up correct for me but I guess it’s because stamp duty? Which I ain’t going through thst all to see how much I paid.

And it’s pretty much 5am and I’m dead atm need sleep for work lol

Yeah would be your only fee for this stock, add 0.5% (e.g. 50p for every £100) to the cost of your shares :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m up 17p I feel like Warren Buffet lol.

Yeh I think I’m Gna try and hold this time as long as I can get in at these prices. Of it hits 53 I’ll sell no point holding at the level I have them.

Kudos to this being your biggest holding

It’s one of these stocks I feel you can sell at the price you stated or a tad higher and wait for it to drop then buy back in as its pretty consistent.

For me though it’s big enough for now

Kiava I got greedy I lost my profit down 13p now!

I’ll definetely buy some more when I get more funds.

Did you remember to deduct stamp duty also lol. I’m down quite a lot and have been for some time but all good. 13p is nothing lol

I feel like that about newmont. However I last sold at around £43 ish but they haven’t looked back since.

Once things pick up in China etc if /when,. Also renewables and tech etc all catches up or the need for it all happens again rio will rise again. It’s normal anyway for it to be this low.

Do you have a holding in rio also?

Rio just on my watchlist but seems like price is as low as it’s likely to go. So maybe add a small holding soon.
Just completed my first year doing this, so have plenty of small holding as I try to absorb info and find out new things etc

It spikes all the time and goes to 45 now and again like it did do last year also  I was in profit more with rio in my gia before I sold and made a isa so it just needs time and doesn’t help the fact I bought slightly high right before China etc started to go shit etc

Yes there’s so much to learn if you want to in this area.

I noticed it had dropped about £8 in the last quarter so maybe it’s time to jump on board.
Up from when I started, largely due to nvidia an he1.
Also think I need to learn to maybe take a profit an buy back in on the drops, rather than have something sat at minus -30/40%
