Hello All just a quick one. My Treasury bill is going to mature tommorow, I’m happy for it to reinvest for another month.
Will the funds be automatically reinvested in the next bid or do I have to wait a week between getting my money back and reinvesting?
Your funds will be reinvested automatically in the next bid. From my experience, this is the timeline:
Money locked on Thursday (by around 21:00)
Bought on Friday (after 9:00)
You will get a message on Friday around 12:00 with the yield achieved if the bid was successful.
Thanks Warren, I’ve reinvested the funds this time I don’t need the money at the moment and it’s the most secure investment I can think of.
Only 5% this time, looks like the yields are dropping.
Interest rates were just cut by 0.25 so yeah it was expected that the T Bill yield would also drop.
Evening all, sorry new to Treasury Bills. I know the money gets reinvested but what happens to the interest? At the moment it’s 5%, is that 5% every month or 5% on the year?
Thanks
Matt
Hello @Waylander
The yield is the result of a weekly tender.
The yield is Annual Percentage Rate(APR), so there is a calculation to give you the equivalent of 28 days.
Have a look at the Freetrade FAQs were most of the questions are answered. If you want to know more please come back with further questions.
This article explains the APR calculation and is full of good information:

I was wondering if im the only one who would like to have the option to beable to set a £ value to reinvest rather than %.
Yes! I would love that.
@acamp would this be something possible in the future ?
Is there a place that shows the weekly yield Freetrade has secured in the tender?
I’d like to compare it to the SONIA (CSH2) to weigh up the differences between both of them (I expect it to be miniscule!)
Not right now actually. We send a trade confirmation for everyone who participates in the weekly tender though. The Debt Management Office publishes weekly data on the auctions, but just shows the range of yields achieved (low, average, high).
Looking back at the result we’ve secured for every weekly auction we’ve participated in (since 15 December 2023), the average yield has been 5.16%. Obviously though with rate cuts this will start to fall (last week we secured 5.01%) and as with any investing, past performance is not predictive of future results
I can definitely mention it!
Thanks. Maybe including a table on the Treasurey Page website page would help encourage newcomers? Although it’s good at explaining how they work and emphasises they are a safe investment, the fact you don’t know what yeild you get may make some feel uncomfortable investing.
@acamp for the last 6/7 weeks the maturity date for my UK T-Bill market buy contract note has not displayed any date. Is this a known bug?
Update be babes with the current tender so I can think what to do on the weeks a head ty
It was 4.99% today.
It’s the first time the rate has dropped below 5% since the first Freetrade tender.

Hey @Ethan1 the team is working on a fix for this!
Great, thank you.
