We need your help! Fractional Shares in ISAs

Sold my single T-Bill so Iā€™m ready to buy. Just hope there isnā€™t many weeks left to wait. Feels like I missed out on the dip early this month.

Yeah that decent dip we had although I bought a few things and managed to spread out a share or two into each before it perked back up again. I managed to buy right at the bottom but I had plenty dollah left. You always hit yourself donā€™t you and now it might be some time until we see those lows again.

Although Iā€™m not good at knowing that kind of stuff but I just know with interest cuts stocks rise usually.

Were you waiting the 28 days or did you have it on recurring for months?

If you canā€™t stretch to a BRK.A share Berkshire Hathaway also offer B shares (BRK.B).

These are only $450 a share.

Oh no I didnā€™t mean I canā€™t buy them I have a good few full berk B shares itā€™s just it takes a big chunk of money which theeln leaves not much for the rest of my etfs etc.

So maybe. Split the share into 3 payments would be better and build it that way. Will be way longer but hey you got to work with what you have.

Donā€™t you need to buy berk A directly as well?

Although thanks for the help

I should be getting my money from the T-Bill today so thatā€™s good. Still pretty annoyed HMRC made this an issue in the first place. I always invest any large amount of money at the beginning of the month. But there are times Iā€™m happy to hold out and see how the US jobs market and any other form of data could cause the markets to respond. I normally do pretty well. If stocks rally due to the data I buy in fractionals, if stocks drop to red I buy in whole shares.

That was until the changes. :squid:

Hi All,
Is there any news on fractional shares in ISAs?
I am in the annoying situation where I have an almost full share of BlackRock, but I wonā€™t be allowed in my ISA account to round up by 0.1 as per Customer Service admission, so I will see my 0.9 fractional share ownership being forced into a sell because of a Corporate Action which is going to happen soon. I can only buy whole shares on the way up, so that wouldnā€™t sort out my issues either. Iā€™d like to avoid spending those FX fees uselessly.
Is there any solution to this?

Why what did hmrc slap you for?

The only thing would be to sell and buy back a full share but as you said the fx fees etc

Someone else might have a trick

They forced Freetrade and the like to turn off fractionals. Thatā€™s what they slapped me for. As FF9991 has pointed out, we canā€™t buy certain stocks because of it. Hopefully one more week to go and we are back with fractionals again.

Yes I was the same I sold down so I had equal shares but I didnā€™t get warnings because I done all this the second I seen it was happning.

Thatā€™s unlucky for yous. Iā€™m also hoping fract comes back to isa also.

You can once again buy fractional US shares in your Freetrade ISA!

Thank you to all our customers who joined us in asking the Government to make clear that fractional shares can be held in an ISA. Weā€™ve always stood by our belief that fractional shares are good for retail investors. They make investing more accessible and make it easier to build a diversified portfolio.

FYI, you still wonā€™t be able to purchase American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) as fractions in your ISA for the time being. Weā€™ll update you if and when this changes in the future.

Capital at risk. ISA eligibility and tax rules apply.

So happy with the news. :tada: :tada: :tada:

Found out myself before US trading hours closed. So I went on a shopping spree as a result.

A shame about the ADRs / GDRs but this is still a massive win. Didnā€™t think contacting my local MP about the issue would get a response from the HM Treasury. But Iā€™m glad I did for myself and the community. :clinking_glasses:

Thatā€™s great news thank you

Is the ADR thing because of HMRC rules or is it more of a technical thing?

Hi Damon,
This is great news and thanks for sharing!
Can you please confirm this means the previous message about BlackRock corporate action for fractional shares in ISA (i.e. they would be sold if not whole shares) is not valid any longer?
Thanks!

Hi @Dave

Weā€™re waiting for clarification on ADRs and how they will be treated in the revised rules before reenabling fractions in them.

Best,
Alex

Can you provide ANY update on when UK based ETF will get fractional shares?
Currently stuck paying over Ā£360 for EQQQ.
Itā€™s getting increasingly difficult to balance my portfolio. And I want to stay with FT and Iā€™m hanging on but really struggling now.
I canā€™t be the only one that thinks should genuinely be one of the top priorities?

Couldnā€™t agree more.

Non-US fractional shares would also be a fantastic enhancement for autopilot!
