I hear you, I mean from a fundamental standpoint you cannot rely on technical indicators to solely (or maybe ever) base a decision. But I personally like to look at both. In this context I had already bought the stock, so it wasn’t presented as ‘buy based off RSI’ but more ‘I bought and I think it’ll fall in the short term and these are my reasons - one being RSI.’
And as I mentioned I actually only used that indicator to then inform when I buy more, once it falls a bit as its a long term investment for me. Could very well be coincidence that it acted as predicted.

of course everyone should do their own research, I try and exercise caution in everything I say that could be or infer financial advice. And I share your view with newbies - just because of the amount of sensationalised info out there.
