I would like to know if friends or relatives living in Germany can use Freetrade to buy German stocks this year (2022)? or is it only for UK residents at the moment?

It’s for UK residents at the moment but once they have their EU licence which is due … SOON … they’ll be expanding across Europe. Not sure if Germany will get the nod in 2022 or if it’ll drop in 2023.
