NuVasive launched the NuVasive Spine Foundationā¢ (NSF) in 2009 with a mission to provide medical equipment, surgical support, and necessary funds to those in need of life-saving spine surgery around the world. The NSF leads medical mission trips and provides aid to those who suffer from chronic back and leg pain, which embodies our commitment to an āAttitude of Gratitudeā.
The NuVasive approach to Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is a new surgical platform called Maximum Access Surgery (MASĀ®), because it delivers the benefit of traditional surgery and the reduced trauma of MIS. By comparison, traditional āopenā spine surgery often requires an incision that is at least 4-6 inches, whereas MAS technology typically requires an incision that is just a couple of inches.
At NuVasive, we are best known for developing the XLIFĀ® procedure, a minimally disruptive procedure that allows spine surgeons to have direct access to the intervertebral disc space (the ājointā of the spine) from the side of the body, as opposed to the front or back. The XLIF procedure is just one of many innovative NuVasive procedures which have redefined spine surgery and beyond.
