REITs in ISAs - FreeTrade withholding tax reclaim notifications?

Yes November for myself. Just raised a new chat asking then to advise on the delay.

I have given up on chat/email as they appear to be reading from a crib sheet.
Same old answer.

if everyone on this thread logs a complaint it might just get the attention that is needed

Hi all

Sorry for the delay I needed to speak with a couple of teams to sort this out. We’ve refreshed our reclaims process over the last few weeks (hence the delay).

We’re due to start the process of distributing outstanding reclaims today.

Going forward, this will happen on a monthly basis. The team is also looking into adding more information so the payments are clear.

Thanks for the response Alex.

Thanks. I’ve just been asking this question in the app. I’ve been waiting for some tax for my BCPT shares to be allocated from December. Thanks

Just received a reclaim notice but it’s a fraction of what is owed for the period in question.Should I expect all of my reclaim to happen at the same time, and if so how do I raise a discrepancy?
To add - reclaim notice shows REI and PHP. Should also include BCPT (GC00B4ZPCJ00), THRL (GB00BJGTLF51) and SOHO (GB00BF0P7H59).

Got mine aswell will have to check numbers. But pleased if this is the way forward quarterly and recorded.

I estimate that yesterday I received about a third of the tax reclaim that I am due.
I would guess that Freetrade have a lot of transactions to process for the last couple of months and are probably pushing them through in batches.

Can you please reach out to customer service through the app or at hello@freetrade.io and they’ll be able to verify this. It may very well be as others noted that these are going through in batches by ISIN.

I haven’t received my payments owed which I have informed customer services about. For other users info

Just starting my tax return and I’ve noticed that only one set of the four dividends from the same REIT, held in my ISA, has had the withheld tax paid back.
In addition I have tax withheld on random companies based in Dublin (eg Smurfit Kappa) held in my GIA.

Do I presume that Freetrade isn’t going to reclaim these afterall, despite the above statement, and reclaim the tax myself, or will this risk me effectively double-claiming of Freetrade are in the process of doing this?

Will this not just be the Irish Dividend Withholding Tax? I don’t have any more subject to this but remember I had to pay it in CRH.

It is, but didn’t you reclaim it? Apparently while they sometimes* reclaim the tax withheld from REITs, they don’t do it in these cases. We have to do this ourself.
.

  • I had a message today that they have reclaimed my REIT tax for April 2024, December’s was done at the time, so I just have October’s outstanding

Smurfit isn’t a reit. Withholding tax on normal companies isn’t the same as the tax on UK reits with can be claimed back on an ISA

You’re obliged to pay foreign withholding tax in an ISA since it doesn’t protect you from foreign tax.

Whether you can claim back on GIA if you’re being double taxed depends on the country and the agreements in place between those governments and probably one for your accountant. Freetrade isn’t involved in that as it’s your personal taxes

I appreciate that, thank you. The REIT I hold in my ISA is Assura.
Smurfit was held in my GIA
My mistake was in assuming that all withheld tax would be dealt with in the same way, when currently not even all my REIT withheld tax has been!
Initially I was trying to work out whether Freetrade would eventually reclaim the tax on my REITs, thereby meaning I didn’t need to and whether they might also reclaim the tax withheld from the Irish shares, since they know I am not resident in Ireland. I have established that I have to reclaim the latter myself.

I’m receiving the withholding tax refunds but they don’t appear in activity list.
Is this normal behaviour?
How are you meant to track what you’ve received and what you haven’t?

They will let you know when they have reclaimed the tax but don’t tell you which ones it’s related to.
Previously it just turned up in your account with out any alerts to let you know.

I got a notification 5 days ago for two distributions claimed back. The split between both companies was specified, and when the original payment dates for each were.

I think my beef is with the fact that’s in a notification and not reflected in the activity list / transaction list. Personally, the activity list should contain all transactions otherwise how can you audit and make sure it’s as expected. The money is just added which makes no sense to me for a financial institution
