UK Treasury bill - Treasury bill chat

Just been looking to possibly invest. I read that these are treated as savings income. The HMRC points out the savings allowance is applicable. I also found this on another website. Deeply discounted securities | Tax Guidance | Tolley.

Just blame HMRC and tell them it’s your fault make up your mind it’s a grey area waiver me or I shall smite you with a soggy fish.

That’s how to deal with HMRC they hate fish, especially soggy ones.

Is there a way to know the percentage of investors’ money Freetrade is usually able to place in the weekly tender for us?
I’d like to know if that’s around 95% or more like 50% of our money for example.
Maybe @acamp ?

This will vary from week to week and depend on the total nominal value of treasury bills being offered by the DMO and the demand from other participants in the market. We also balance off trying to achieve the best possible yield for customers alongside the likelihood of an order at that yield being successful.

There’s more detail in the section “what are the possible outcomes of the tender?” Learn more about UK Treasury bills

So far in every tender that we’ve participated 100% of customers’ orders have been filled.

Thanks @acamp !
Is there a way to know the exact amounts Freetrade places on the DMO website as well? It seemed to be the case based on a recent post by Adam, but I wasn’t able to find the right link so far.

We don’t publish the total amounts that we are submitting in the weekly tenders. On the DMO’s site you can see the results for tenders, including demand and supply. There isn’t detail about the amounts bid by individual primary participants (one of whom we send our orders to).

If you have a treasury renewing does it reinvest what you have left in account

You can set what proportion of your investment in a treasury bill to reinvest. If you have cash sitting in treasury then you will need to decide whether to invest it or move it to another account. Reinvesting an existing position won’t automatically invest extra cash in the account.

Would you mind putting on here when the bug is fixed please?

@acamp also, currently the UK Treasury Bill is sorted from lowest to highest YTM on the UI. Would it be possible to add a sort option so that we could change this, ideally so that we could sort by shortest to longest time remaining to maturity?

Yep, the sort is odd at times, and seems to periodically change, by maturity would be perfect.

I now have all 4 weeks of TBills filled. So I will now just let it roll.
Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves!

Yes I am going for the same approach and creating a ladder.

I will resume investing in Tbills only once they are available in the ISA

I’ve made £1.07 for £250 invested for a month…… what’s the point in that!!! Seems a terrible return to me. Prefer a much bigger gamble

That is sort of the point? It isn’t a gamble. Look at it as a savings account.

This is a steady return. If you try get these rates at the bank there loads of strings attached. So this is safe with pretty quick access. What is not to like.
