2021 Product Roadmap

Anyone know when the roadmap will come out

Autopilot. Why are we still talking about this? I’ve stopped putting regular money into Freetrade and I’m using Trading212 for this - their auto-investment feature is great and I’ll continue to use it until Freetrade get their act together.

Seems pointless adding more stocks in favour of making it easier to invest in them…

Great, hope 212 works out for you if it has the features you need right now. Hopefully freetrade will add more features this year but balance with that their focus to allow people to trade shares as much as they can without putting a block on them

An accurate Road Map would be a good start ie; maybe hitting the targets within 3-6 months and if they don’t make it or change things maybe informing their customers.

They’re not going to give people 3-6 month targets for features no one does this. It’s a terrible idea, as much as we’d all love to have these details as customers from a business perspective it’s not a great idea as it ultimately leads to disappointment and angry customers.

They have hinted at three upcoming things this year in a tweet. But I wouldn’t expect timelines except for ‘when it’s done’

I think it’s a great idea. It’s nice to know what’s coming in future and it gives me hope that things are improving. That’s just MY personal opinion of course.
What are the 3 things in the tweet? Thanks

Is the actual roadmap available anywhere?

I really would like EU expansion and ability to transfer portfolio. I and many others are considering moving to the EU, being EU citizens, and it would be good if we could either keep our UK FT account (imagine when people with an ISA decide to return to the UK later) or transfer it to the FT EU section, rather than selling all stocks, withdrawing the money, and start over again with another broker

Sadly this is more dependent on the legislation on the country you’re going to. Freetrade being open for business in other European countries may be meaningless in this regard

While I really agree with your sentiment here, I doubt that ISAs can be kept when moving out of the UK, that would be really tricky for tax reasons. But I’d love it for GIAs.

You can keep your isa you just can’t pay anymore in.

Correct.

There might be states who are not fond of the idea of allowing residents maintaining funds in a tax wrapper instrument in a third country, and may charge with legal obstacles

As i understand it, you can keep your ISA and the UK will honour the ISA wrapper, but a third country has no requirement to honour the regulations of the UK and they may impose tax on any realised gains in an ISA, or impose tax based on other local regulations in the country you move to.

this is also my understanding

Exactly. I’m not aware of any European country that you would not be liable for the gains made in your ISA. This opens up so many chances for users dodging taxes that I doubt freetrade wants to take that kyc/aml risk on them.

You can’t just open bank accounts in foreign countries if you don’t reside there partly because of this. Freetrade really doesn’t want to facilitate that.
E.g. in Germany, the broker takes your taxes directly for every dividend/sale. So how that would work with using freetrade as a German user that has an ISA open would need a lot of workarounds. Not feasible.

That doesn’t mean that you have to close the ISA.
I think you can keep it, you just have to declare any gains in any tax years that you are a resident of another country (and pay taxes on those years).

That way if you ever return to the UK you would still have your ISA.
