Greetings,

I’m pretty new to investing so would like some help (not advice) on choosing ETFs bonds.

Basically a bit of education from you experienced guy’s and girl’s out there.

I didn’t invest in any bond ETF’s in my first few years, but have since learnt about them!

You can classify them between:

  • Government (Treasuries for US, GILTS for UK) or Corporate. Government being the larger Market and lower risk
  • Developed or Emerging market, developed being lower risk
  • The length of term on the bonds, with short dated being lower risk
  • Currencies and whether it’s hedged / unhedged
  • Some can be inflation linked, which basically hedges against the impact of inflation

Taking account of the above categories the KIDs and risk ratings shown can give some insight…
