Is it possible to bet on a share going down in price. I am confident that the company I am looking won’t go above X and will probably go down to Y if it does, is there a way for me to make money from my prediction?

Not on Freetrade there isn’t.

What you’re looking for is options trading but you need to do lots of research before getting involved in this.

You could use a spreadbetting or CFD firm for that.

Bear in mind it’s more risky that ordinary stock trading

The absolute worst that can happen with buying a stock is it goes to zero and you lose all your investment. but if you short and it goes up there is theoretically no limit to how much you can lose, it can be many times the original price of the stock

I think I read about 80% of people lose money on cfd’s.

Thanks Neil, Dave, Jimmy.

I have pressed the parachute button, I don’t need much convincing. The thing with Spreadbetting my friend told me once is your betting against people who will let you win for a bit then slowly but surely you start losing your money. Not sure how true that is but don’t have the time

Yes there is, it’s called futures or contract for difference trading and what you’re describing is shorting a stock.

There are a handful of platforms that offer it in the UK e.g. plus 500.

It is very risky and you potentially could end up losing more than your initial investment if you’re not careful.

It’s not really that, If you are betting on the direction of a share they don’t have control over it to "let you win " or not.

The risk is down to the leverage, you can make big gains fast, but also big losses. And very few people can get it right consistently without making a mistake and blowing their previous gains.

The only thing I know in Freetrade is the Inverse S&P500 (£XSPS) and the FTSE 100 Short (£XUKS).
