[Feature Request 🔧] Cryptocurrency support

A digital wallet would be more welcomed. I would happily trade cryptos via Freetrade if I could easily buy, sell, exchange, move to cold storage, etc. It would have to be as flexible as it can possibly be.

Yeah I imagine most wouldn’t care, thought I’d start a poll

I just worry it would get very messy, but if they could do it then that would be amazing.

I’d have thought most people using freetrade to buy crypto would be doing so simply as a speculative/ diversifying investment and a clean and simple UX would be more important than the more technical aspects. I’d imagine it would be easier to build that out in the revolut style. It also feels quite similar to the share side of things we obviously get the investment gains/ dividends but we don’t have paper certificates or the ability to vote. And for now at least we can’t transfer in and out.

I’m surprised by the amount of people who want a digital wallet type implementation - can’t see it ending well!

How do you think Freetrade should implement crypto? Or do you think there is no way they can do it justice?

Until a better solution presents itself I’d prefer they didn’t.

Out of the two options I’ve listed, I’d prefer they went down the Revolut approach. While it won’t be much good for those who already own crypto, it would give those who don’t an easy way to gain exposure.

I love crypto especially Bitcoin.

FreeTrade aims to be the market leader amongst Gen Z’s and Milenials.
As a vanguard FinTech company that wants to maintain the edge leading the way, It cannot aford NOT to start offering crypto trading.

wakey-wakey, Viktor !

Crypto .com just announced they are burning 70,000,000,000 CRO tokens (including 59.6 billion today). Apparently this is the biggest token burn in history.

Total CRO token supply according to coinmarketcap is 100 billion, which means they are burning 70% of all tokens.

Before the announcement it seems the price was around $0.135 per token. Since the announcement, the token has increased to about $0.27 (roughly +100%).

It may have a little further to go, since 100/70 * 0.135 = 0.45.

Full disclosure: I own some CRO tokens and am a user of the crypto .com app, which is how I learned about it.

Edit: Just realised this is the crypto stock request thread, and not general discussion :man_facepalming: Please feel free to move the post if it is considered off-topic.

I love you because you love crypto. But maaaan, so many ppl will get burned because of scams and dodgy tokens and NFTs , its like the 90s and the internet

Hey,
That’s not a stock, so can’t be added. Nobody knows yet when Freetrade will offer crypto. But you can just open a coinbase account if you want to buy it.

If Freetrade want another huge spike in user growth, they just need to list Cardano!

So many uneducated in here on crypto. Saying crypto isn’t real? It’s basically shares in digital form.
Bitcoin the biggest is accepted in monetary terms we all know that. Another prime example which I was lucky enough to get in early on is chiliz. It’s been adopted by sports establishments world wide the NBA have picked it up too. A lot of you need to and do your research. Crypto is a new modern age stock, to think otherwise isn’t wise.

Shares in a company are a share of the tangible assets of that company. Even with Argo Blockchain, there are the mining machines and a revenue stream (in dollars no less!) of which shareholders have ownership.
Those shares may be over or undervalued in comparison to the companies assets, there is always speculation and irrationality in the markets.
Crypto is entirely speculation, there is no underlying asset. I don’t care how much you spent on graphics cards and energy bills to mine a token, it’s still just a token.
Proof of work and the algorithms behind blockchain are clever bits of technology, but it’s become such a meaningless buzz word now.
Countless companies springing up saying ‘We will revolutionize X industry with disruptive blockchain technology’ only to disappear with investors money a few weeks later.

Interesting read. I can’t help but think the whole crypto thing will burst its bubble sooner or later. I just don’t understand how it hasn’t got more bad press for its shocking environmental effects. When Covid calms down I honestly think that sooner or later it will get bigger news and to use the word someone uttered the other day become toxic.
Already firms are being pushed to invest with the environment at the centre of its mind so surely crypto is on borrowed time and there will end up some big losers sadly.

Most of the newer coins are based on proof-of-stake not proof-of-work like Bitcoin. Even Ethereum is currently switching. This does not cost ridiculous amounts of energy (0 energy basically), so this problem will not be a thing for many important coins.

A nice interview with the founder of algorand just came out for anyone interested. They also cover proof of stake:
