Are you implying Freetrade is only worth £400
I’ve always felt they make natural partners for collaboration, I’m less keen on acquisition because there is much more to do in this space but as time goes on the scale required to exist as a healthy public company does seem harder to achieve.
I can’t see Monzo spending that money on Freetrade personally - much more likely to be used to help them expand in US / EU. Especially now that they have their own investment product. Although agree that as a customer I’d love to be able to see my FT balance in the Monzo app.
The recent campaign to get people to transfer significant funds into FT would suggest to me that they are looking to bolster AUM in advance of another round of investment. I’d imagine that they have heard from investors that the customer growth story is great but they need to increase AUM per customer. They are probably waiting for all the funds from the campaign to be transferred before doing an update to investors so that they can show a good story around AUM growth. Wouldn’t make sense to me to run a funds transfer promotion once you have already locked in a price with investors - you’d do it in advance.
Once the institutional investors get their pound of flesh I’ll be surprised if there’s much left for the crowdfunding crew. Even at R3 I’ve pretty much written off any potential profits but hope springs eternal.
If this is the case then I think we all have a duty to report to the media that the governments drive to get people to invest in UK companies, especially start ups, is a scam - and until better protections are in place for those retailer investors who invest early then avoid UK start ups like the plague.
Let’s hope this is not the case.
Bit OTT referencing scam, investing in any start up is about as far up as it gets on the risk scale.
Absolutely, I have no concerns about the risk - I signed up to uncertain markets, competitors, lack of consumer interest, and so forth. Legit reasons for seeing no return on my investment.
I didn’t sign up for a big investor to go out and buy a new yacht with their profits because they have more favourable terms than I do whilst I was the one taking all the risk at the beginning.
But this is moot, I still have faith in FT I just wanted to air some frustrations.
The scam is two tiered returns, one for crowdfunders, one for VCs, not the inherent risk of startup investing. I’m an initial R3 investor as well, the valuation was £18 million. If FT exits for hundreds of millions in valuation with little return for R3 I would think it is an actual scam.
You can already purchase shares on Monzo so why would they buy Freetrade?
All this talk about updates etc is hard to work out if FT should keep quiet or not. There will be many complicated elements we are not privy to.
Yes they should either say and do release details or not say in first place but there still seems no reason to ignore the large £10k plus investors about the NFTs.
This more than anything worries me as if the biggest crowdfunders are not getting this basic information then I really don’t expect to be getting the update this thread wants.
Thanks all for your patience and eagerness to see the results. As I said above, we needed to finalise our Q1 numbers for the release. We’re in the process of wrapping this up and doing some final checks. Our plan at the moment is to have the release ready for Monday the 15th.
Best,
Alex
As for the NFTs and @CashCow’s admirable forbearance, I’ve been chatting with the team about a few ideas. To be honest, we never properly picked up the discussion around the perks that we could associate with the NFT. There was likely some thought at the time that a Freetrade Crypto offering could provide some opportunities for these perks.
We have a potential date! Excellent. That’s so much better than #soon
And I hope that’s April 2024
Holy cowpat! Thank you for picking this up Alex. I promise to never trample you in this life or the next.
I vote for @NeilB’s glorious idea. Regardless, it’s great to hear there have been conversations about it.
Probably July 2024
Yep it is
Don’t let us down now Alex
