How much cash “float” should I keep?

Freetrade has eventually managed to get my joint account linked properly so I’m now ready to start making some investments :grinning:

On Friday I queued up orders for ETFs and used most of the reminder to buy a bit of Gladstone Capital leaving me with about £1! However if the price of the ETFs changes before the queued orders are fulfilled and I run out of cash would some of them fail?

Also do you find it easier to balance a portfolio if there is some cash in the account?

If they are UK companies I assume so then yes. It would buy the most it can and if none is that answer then I assume it will be zero. If I queue stocks I always leave Gladstone or Berkshire until all transactions are complete and use the accumulated left overs on a US as you get to use up to the last 8p or so :+1:

Thanks, waiting until after all the trades have gone through makes sense! I think I was too keen to get going and only the US market was open

Is Berkshire, Berkshire Hathaway? I’ll take a look at it too.

Yep it is one of my favourites along with Gladstone to use up any money or dividends. :+1: and totally understand the impatience part as been there many times before

Just looked up Berkshire Hathaway and found out that it’s Warren Buffet company  Shows I’ve got more to learn!
