The Index is designed to provide access to equity market volatility through CBOE Volatility Index® (the “VIX Index”) futures. The Index offers exposure to a daily rolling long position in the first and second month VIX futures contracts and reflects market participants’ views of the future direction of the VIX index at the time of expiration of the VIX futures contracts comprising the Index.
I am aware that Freetrade does not have plans to enable short-selling or options trading in the near future, but I am curious to hear what the thoughts are on these different kinds of indirect short positions. Along the same lines, @Mat has suggested a couple of short ETFs
From memory my old clients used to trade VXIS - but I could be wrong as it seems like a life time ago in a galaxy far far away. But there is certainly a VIX Short ETF(n) available to Europeans.
MiFID was originally introduced in 2004, which is when I presume non-compliant US ETFs were banned.
Since it is more likely true that iPath is not available in the EU, it would be great if anyone interested could share what a compliant equivalent is, otherwise there is not much point to voting on a suggestion that physically cannot be delivered
If you’re interested in exotics, might be worth keeping an eye out for Stake.
They’ll be launching in the UK in the next month or so and specialise in providing US stocks and ETFs (4000+) with FX from 0.2% and only when adding funds into a USD account rather than on every transaction like FT.
