Twitter - TWTR - Share Chat

Yeah you’re right and there are the usual musings about whether the rules apply to billionaires, especially this one.

I’m not doing the 20 min podcast justice - here’s a link to listen direct.

To be honest, this is even clearer than the podcast.

tl;dr - Musk probably has to complete the deal at $54.20 if Twitter demands he does and the “what about the bots” issue he’s raising likely isn’t enough for him to wriggle out of it

I don’t believe it’s butter. Sorry, that’s random and I couldn’t help myself.

Anyway, what I wanted to say was there’s a healthy profit to be made for people who believe that the deal will go through and buy Twitter shares now. Maybe it needs some rich hostile investor to go in, then they can sue Elon and Twitter later for something… wait, maybe Bill Gates could go in and get revenge for that brutal meme. Or Bezos, who’s strangely been getting better at Tweeting since Elon made the offer.

I haven’t been following it that closely, but seems like cold feet if he’s thinking of backing out because of a bots issues, as someone said above. As if that’s news to him.

Probably best not for Musky to buy twitter, keep doing those cars and rockets!

Good. You’ve got to feel sorry for investors, people who hold Twitter as a big % of their LISA or the absolute moron on this forum who chose Twitter for the “Freetrade Baggers - Stocks you think will double in 2022” competition. Wow, I wouldn’t like to be that person, what a silly sausage!

The comments on that article are worth a read as well. Mollusc isn’t as popular as he used to be.

I don’t know why so many people believe him when he says he’s going to do something. He’s done this sort of thing before and people just let it slide then fall for it again next time. A bit like our government…

Sounds like he’s trying to do due diligence. Except he proactively waived his right to do due diligence when he made his offer.

Pay up Mr Musk.

The people who were saying it looked like a good way to offload Tesla shares… might just be right

The $1bn breakup fee is equal to their profit for about 12 months.

It’s obvious why Musk is pulling out of this deal but the biggest questions are the whole thing are:

  1. Does he spend a lot of time on these forums?
  2. When exactly did he find out that I’m invested in Twitter and was his decision to cancel his acquisition immediate or did he need to ruminate on it?

Perhaps I should invest in Tesla so that he removes himself from that company as well.

i feel bad for anyone still owning Twitter stock, RIP when markets open on Monday

And also for anyone who bought recently hoping to make a bit of money from the Musk deal!

It’s not over yet.

This won’t happen, it’ll take 12-24 months and be dragged through court. It’ll be how much Elon needs to pay Twitter to get out of the deal, minimum is $1bn but could be higher

I’m not so sure, let’s not forget this meme is now over 4 years old and things have not got better since, in fact Elon’s been even more brazen and openly contemptuous towards the SEC.

I think there is significant political appetite to push this, given the history Elon continuing to manipulate capital markets without consequence makes regulators look impotent - I expect Twitter’s legal team will aim capitalize on that.

Clearly the markets aren’t expecting Twitter to be able to force the issue, but I still think it’d take a miracle for Elon to only end up spending $1bn here, especially given how weak the bot argument appears to be.

I’ve got no skin in the game, but I’m not ruling anything out. Being forced to go through with this certainly fits with Elon’s own adage that the most entertaining outcome is the most likely.
