I have done well on UK stocks when the dividends are accounted for. Personally, I think the British ISA is great and if it pulls in a little bit more to the UK then great. It also gives people the chance to open it with another provider to spread there portfolio which is always nice.
Not something I was looking for but there are lots of people who do the £20k and would then happily use it.
It’s an idea that would likely lead me to invest in UK companies, provided I could reach the £20,000 limit. Currently, I refrain from investing here as my familiarity lies more with American companies, despite acknowledging the presence of notable firms in the UK, such as BP, Shell, Diageo, Rio Tinto, among others. Additionally, I would allocate this £5,000 to dividend-paying companies, allowing me to diversify into a different investment strategy.
If you go to bbc business news on either the .com or .co.uk website you will find a lack of UK company news. Both Scotland and Wales has its own business section which is strange that NI and England doesn’t. As the main source of trusted news in the UK having little to no business news relating to the UK isnt going to help get the British Isa off the ground. And today being internstional Womens day the announcement by Nationwide is buying Virgin Money should be massive news as the chair is a Woman.
Im not sure the BBC is most relevant to British business for those interested in finance. You will only hear about big companies/banks.
I also don’t think that (as most respondents to this thread illustrate) that the BISA will have the most impact for retail investors.
Likely it will, however, be useful for wealth advisors and family offices backed by solicitors and a rhizome of investment strategies. There is a lot of money sitting in savings accounts because of favourable rates and some of that will be repurposed with the BISA.
The big impact for UK listed shares remains inflation/interest rates. Once interest rates start to dip (maybe next year), the fear of missing out will become palpable. Right now, anyone focussed on UK shares is concurrently enjoying the discount whilst tending to their wounds.
Not relevant. Even a little pedantic!
Probably Simone. As I’m not even paying tax yet. Anyway this should be on a page for Paul win. Or better still polling. AI has yet to be able to understand my Glaswegian lisp!
