Does anyone have a stake in an ETF that exposes them to an index, where they already have positions in?
Just curious to see who has an ETF and additional positions in the stocks within that ETF

I think this would be quite common. Assuming lots of people hold broad ETFs like the S&P 500 as well as individual stocks. I certainly have, but I don’t do this as a specific strategy.
I do use ETFs to gain some exposure to specific stocks that I can’t buy directly in my ISA, e.g. Vanguard Emerging Markets ETF (VFEM) to get Alibaba (BABA only 5% of VFEM but better than nothing).
I guess this would be fairly common too. I hold Finsbury G&I Trust but that doesn’t hold any of my other shares, but it wouldn’t bother me if it did either. Funds and Trusts are good way of diversifying when you’re unsure on a market. @Anders example of Alibaba is a good one, I can see people holding EM funds (I do) & also holding Alibaba as one of the biggest names in China.
Assuming people are reading the reports then I don’t think its a problem. I could be a problem if they aren’t sure what their funds are holding
