HG capital

Hi there Iā€™m looking at investing in hg capital at the moment itā€™s 220p and last years dividend payment was 46p which seems alot for a low priced share? As anyone got these shares is it worth it?

They did a 10:1 split recently. Dividends should be adjusted 10 for 1 e.g. 46p is now 4.6p.

Have you invested? I did today. Private Equity have taken a kicking lately. I am taking advantage of the discounts.
Took me a while to go through the AIC private equity sector. Gave up in the end going through every one of them. Settled on this and 3i Group.
HG price has been below its ā€œCOVIDā€ discount. A bit of a recovery of late so missed the bottom.
Just noticed date and price very nice if you bought it then at that price

Iā€™ve also been using the past couple of months as an opportunity to buy private equity at a wider-than-usual discount. I was close to opening a position in HGT but opted for Harbourvest instead because itā€™s not as tech-heavy (I already hold SMT and ATT) and HVPEā€™s more of a fund of funds. If I ever have space for a second private equity fund, HGT will be near the top of the list though.

Bought 3i group first. Although it wasnā€™t on a large discount it had fallen further than most as its normally on 20% premium.
Its dividend is reasonable and the dividend increases are excellent.
HG capital not so good on dividends but 113% share gain over 5 years despite being on a 18% discount. HG is definitely tech heavy in fact thats all they do.

Up 4.5% on 15th july purcase of 3i
and 10% on the 29 june purcase.
And down 5% on Georgia Capital!!bought in April. A private equity based in the frontier market ofā€¦Georgia. i think its trading on a 40% plus discount. Its also spending 20 million on buy backs (company valued at 280 million). Luckily i bought bank of Georgia at the same time its up 17%.

Here is an interesting fact

I would have thought automatically that Scottish mortgage would be the winner.

Iā€™ve started a small position today. Iā€™m hoping for a dip back to the Ā£3.20-3.50 range before topping up but that may be wishful thinking.

Good overview that. Itā€™s a real hidden gem this trust.

Mind you, I did get a little stung by the spread. Given its size and volume, Iā€™d expect it to be tighter, but going by the buy/sell listed on HL, itā€™s nearly 1% currently. Something to keep an eye on in future.

Spread 0.7% today probably very variable.
Also private equity share prices seem very volatile. Down 4% at the moment nothing on rns to warrants it.

Yeah, Iā€™ve been watching it for a few days and the spread fluctuates a fair bit.

HGTā€™s nearing my buy range now, so I need to decide at what price to pull the trigger.

I donā€™t want to be too greedy and miss out on what I thinkā€™s a good long-term opportunity.

If I had some money I would go for it now. Or possibly buy it bit by bit.

Ended the day 5% down.
Where is the market going!!
