Investing abroad

So the London Stock Exchange Group (Including Borsa Italiana) is like the 6th largest exchange group in the world after NYSE, Nasdaq, Japan Exchange, Shanghai and Euronext, but to date the vast majority of my investments (definitely over 99%) have been confined to UK markets. The problem is that investing overseas can seem rather complicated, particularly if you want to add something more exotic than US stocks to your portfolio, and of course there are FX complications associated with overseas ownership too. While Interactive Brokers offer a fairly good global coverage it is still by no means completely comprehensive. For instance I would like to add a company which trades on Bursa Malaysia to my portfolio, but I have no idea how to go about this as a fairly small private retail investor based in the UK. Any suggestions?
