MEGATHREAD: Free Share updates and feedback 🎟

Yeah same for me too

I assumed that if it was randomised it would also be weighted!

I didn’t get a new link either, could you guys please have a look?

Can you DM me your Freetrade emails, so we can check?

Are we getting another referral to pass on if we have used the first one?

Got a friend onboarded already. Looking forward to the next referrals as there are more millennial friends looking to get into investing, ideally through Freetrade! :grinning:

The process was easy and simple. Great way to feedback on the status of the referral as well. :ok_hand:

Will there be a limit to the number of referrals?

We don’t plan on having one! And we’d rather spend our marketing budget on rewarding our community than on Google AdWords or tube ad campaigns.

Convinced a colleague to use the link and he’s signed up and topped up his account, but hasn’t yet bought anything. In the meantime I I got a new referral link - is there any way to still see the progress of the person so we’ll know once they’ve bought something and become eligible? Or will we get a notification?

No need to make a purchase, a top-up meets the requirement, although obviously it’s better if they support the platform by investing. Have they completed the W-8BEN form under profile on the app?

That’s an error which FT haven’t fixed yet. They’ve already confirmed elsewhere that the person also needs to make a purchase. The W-8BEN form is only necessary for buying US stocks too, so if the person sticks to UK-only stocks they would have no reason to fill it in.

Viktor clarified last week it was only a top up needed and you need the W-8Ben as the free share might be American

Emma’s correct.

I’m not sure which error you’re referring to there either?

Can you find/link the post? I must have missed that one.

Someone (think Viktor) previously said that you need to top up your account and buy a single share to be eligible, and the fact that the app only said “top up” was the error as it should also say buy.

@Racxie I have referred one person so far and they have only topped up. The free share is queued. It makes sense to me to only require a top up. I think the free share will probably lead a number of people into investing, having seen the fluctuations and getting involved in the community.

You need it filled in to send the referral so need it to receive it

Thanks. I’m definitely not as active as I should be on here (or used to be when I first joined), so I must have missed that. Although I’m not sure I agree it makes sense, as someone could top up their account, get the free share, withdraw their money again and still keep the free share thus not actually having invested in the FT platform.

Whereas if they bought a share and sold it straight away they could be subject to some of the mandatory fees, meaning if they did it instantly they might lose out by a few pence.

They could but by the time they get their free share issued they will have time to have checked out the app and decided it’s really good and keep using it :crossed_fingers:

Or so we can only hope. I’m still struggling to convince one of my close friends even with the free share incentive. I was even struggling before that despite always showing off my returns thinking that would be good enough :joy:

100%. Some people will do this, others won’t. Some will plan to do this and then change their mind! It is no different to many other offerings (bank switches, chip savings etc).

I am sure @Viktor and team understand the possibility of the system being exploited. Ultimately, it is all marketing and exposure and will undoubtedly garner support for the brand.
