What are people's ideas for side hustles?

Either that GIF is from a dramatisation, or Mock Guard dude is a dead ringer for the guy who played Eddie Zeidel in ā€œI’m Dying Up Hereā€ :joy:

Sounds a bit pikey to me, but very sofishticated.

BBC did a piece on side hustles

In case the previously posted links for the free $10 stellar lumens are already used up, here’s mine  https://coinbase.com/earn/xlm/invite/w9p372z5

So my side hustles are Airbnb (mainly), coming up to 5 consecutive years as a Superhost. :muscle: Hard work but has morphed me from a complete slob into the tidiest homeowner in town.

The other side hustle as with a few others in this thread is matched betting, although I only tend to do it nowadays for the big events. One new bookie I’ve quite enjoyed using recently is Kwiff. Sometimes the odds get Kwiffed (boosted). If you’d like a random free Ā£10 bet for depositing Ā£5 (which can be withdrawn after you receive the free bet) please feel free to use my referral (I’ll also receive the same Ā£10 bet, generated by the Kwiff algorithm): https://dkn33.app.goo.gl/dpP7

I intend to lose most of my side-hustling earnings speculating on cryptocurrencies. If you’d like to join me in solidarity with this venture, whilst using free crypto, you’re welcome to use my Coinbase referral (I’ll also earn $10, for the time being anyway): https://coinbase.com/earn/xlm/invite/hy81p07b

Oh, and my other side-hustle is referrals, if you hadn’t already guessed. :money_mouth_face::+1:

Not sure if it is a side hustle, but I have a number of side bank accounts I switch using CASS to earn cash. Between us we have made £575 in 2019 :moneybag:

Ps. The credit hit doesn’t bother us :wink: We are ok! :house:

Ā£175 upfront for switching to HSBC!

It was the Santander, we haven’t really thought this through lads, giveaway. Lots of people earned $$$ on this. Many a sacrificial banking account was put to the slaughter! :joy:

I don’t know much about switches, so soz if this is stupid - is it possible to, say, set up a starling account set up a couple standing orders to myself, and then switch it through all the accounts with an offer?

  1. Set up any account which is part of the CASS:
    https://www.currentaccountswitch.co.uk/banksandbuildingsocieties/Pages/banks.aspx

  2. Consider the morality of using this bank as a sacrificial donor account (Hint: Starling/Monzo = good bank, Barclays = where’s the axe?)

  3. Find yourself some sweet DD’s: Ratesetter, Plum, Chip, Tickr, Credit Cards, Paypal (Freetrade should totally have a DD investing option )

Awesome - does it hit your credit score?

I probably wouldn’t apply for a mortgage straight away.

Generally yes. Financial institutions like accounts to be open for longer. They like stability.

I did the Coinbase earn a couple of weeks ago which put about £31 in my Coinbase account.

That £31 is now worth £18. People invested properly in crypto must like the big swings

Edit; either that or the coins you can earn are just junk

See the whole thing about matched betting? The clue about it being gambling is in the name. I love reading about people over inflated success stories and how it’s not like gambling when in fact that’s exactly what it is. There is only risk involved. Don’t believe the hype. Don’t spend more than you can afford to lose on sport results because one in tens are one in tens for a reason. Ie they happen

Everyone evaluates and takes risk on a daily basis. Call it what you like, if the risk can be managed and is negligible then for many it’s worthwhile. There’s a reason why my most matched bettors get banned by the bookies.

Personally I dislike the proliferation of gambling since Labour introduced their reforms in 2005, I think it should be much more regulated and the advertising should be curbed. That said I’m not principled enough to turn down free money.

I beg to differ - speaking as a former gambler, matched betting is not gambling. When I gambled in the past, all I ever did was lose as betting is absolutely is a mug’s game.

However, I’ve been matched betting for over 3 years, made around Ā£14k in that time. It’s something I can just pick up and do in my spare time, or not do, if I don’t feel like it.

It’s not for everyone - it can be time-consuming and monotonous, plus keeping track of it all can be a real chore. It’s definitely not a passive income maker.

Still, I continue to enjoy it as it’s my only hobby that earns me any money!

A bit of a different side hustle here, don’t know if someone suggested it before, but poker can be a very decent side hustle. Used to make a decent income of like Ā£300/month playing online on the weekends and some nights as well. Also made like Ā£2k playing live for a month or two in casinos around Leicester Square. A lot of recreational players there and you can make decent money with some knowledge about the game. I also found it very relaxing to play for a couple of hours live after a long week at work.

Of course it is not recommended for people with gambling tendencies as you can easily slip and just gamble all your money away. The secret is that in poker you don’t play against the casino, hence you can make some money in the long-run. Also interestingly enough I learned a lot of skills that I now use in investing, there are some concepts that are weirdly similar.
