The company buys their own shares on the market and ‘destroys’ them (not literally). This means that there are fewer shares to trade and higher value per share. It’s a good thing. Like a dividend, but you don’t have to pay tax on it.

It happens over a period of time so you don’t notice it but the market will price often price it in fairly quickly. This should be worth 3% on top of the announced buyback, it’s good because it shows management confidence in under valued nature the stock price.
