DD goes out the window with meme stock

Well, this was actually kind of the point I was making, so I guess we’re in agreement.

I was pointing out that the term DD keeps getting thrown around in discussions about GME and AMC, and it always boils down to ā€œsomeone on reddit said it was goodā€. It’s not due diligence, it’s gambling. It might well turn out to be a good gamble, but that’s got nothing to do with the business itself.

For you AMC lovers out there…

What exactly is your point? That people using other people’s published DD are stupid? Or that is doesn’t constitute DD at all because it’s not based solely on the business’ financials?

" The dictionary definition says that due diligence means ā€œthe care that a reasonable person exercises to avoid harm to other persons or their property.ā€ In plain English, due diligence means doing your homework. Before putting your business funds to work on anything, you should make yourself an expert "

I could pull any amount of differing definitions for DD but suspect that this is not where your issue lies.

You could argue that DD in the case of these meme stocks is assessing the real probability of an actual short squeeze happening. I think some people have put some real effort into trying to uncover the figures and work out the probabilities. However some of it is clutching at straws and trying to infer things from the figures that probably aren’t there. Most people are taking a blind punt.

I’ve made my point twice, and kindly don’t make out that I’m trying to call anyone stupid. I’m not. I am, however, trying to encourage people to do their own research on what they’re investing in rather than taking stuff from reddit as a sure-thing.

Are you saying having something peer reviewed is not doing due diligence?

TBH the tone is a wee bit insulting. .

Why are we still talking about what DD is and not about AMC

I’m not in the habit of insinuating anything, I simply asked which it was because you hinted at both.

No worries.

$60, I like.

How diligent or due the information is isn’t really the main thing here, so long as the information is driving the price up at this speed… As far as this monkey knows, anyway :woman_shrugging:t2:

Not really as this ā€œDDā€ comment stemmed from you thinking not much ā€œscienceā€ was being applied to AMCs future. Whether it’s a meme stock or not you can use different DD/theorys/research to give a basic guidance to see it’s trajectory. Like I said there’s a lot of smart people about
