In August 23 my shares in AMC went from 8 to 1 where are my shares gone
Think they stock split.
It sounds like this was when AMC did a reverse split (August 2023) where the total number of shares you held would have decreased.

“The Settlement Payment consists of one share of Class A common stock for every 7.5 shares of Class A common stock owned by record holders of the Class A common stock as of the close of business on August 24, 2023.”
