Down Time Drivel

Sadly I dont understand it enough, or have the patience.

But it does seem to be a good spectacle if you know what you are looking at

I tend to watch highlight shows, not the actual games. Tried to get London NFL tickets but missed out this year.

Always book day off work so I can watch the Superbowl but itā€™s tough trying to stay awake for the whole thing!

My son and I are planning to go to watch Washington in Washington next year we did see them play a tied game in Wembley a few years back.

Only 850 more mondays until I retire :see_no_evil::grin::rofl:

How did you work that out, @Bob1 ? Until you reach normal retirement age or early retirement?

I actually donā€™t mind Mondays - start of new week and all that.

Itā€™s Tuesdays I donā€™t really like, neither here nor there!

Well I just went for my likely retirement age (subject to change).

My employers normal retirement age is 60ā€¦so basically thenā€¦using a date calculator to count the days for me and then devide by 7

Guy I work with can retire soonā€¦so got me curious

Iā€™ve got 3 more years of NI to contribute before Iā€™m eligible for the max state pension, so that seems like a good time to aim for retirement, although whether it will actually be the ā€˜right timeā€™ depends on my investments/stock market!

The government/next government could move the goalposts on this again, so itā€™s all really just a guess!

It really is.

Despite me counting my mondays  I am very aware its a very fluid situation.

Lets hope we all get to live out long, prosperous and more importantly, healthy retirements. Its the least people deserve after 30-40 plus years of working :slightly_smiling_face:

A thing I heard over the weekend. Using pension tax relief to your advantage and have a mortgage on interest-only. Pay mortgage from pension. Any thoughts? I guess thereā€™s the tax free lump sum and it sounds an interesting approach.

Guess could work for someā€¦definitely, absolutely something best discussed with a financial advisor, as it would only work in certain circumstances.

Itā€™s a weird one. Makes sense esp if youā€™re paying in a 40%+ income tax bracket, your age, term of mortgage, interest rate of mortgage and term and what the pension invests in. No easy answer I guess!

Its one that needs a FI and a lot of specific data relevant to the individual.

I know everyoneā€™s too afraid to ask, but how did your sweet million toms get on this year?

Best crop in a while, thanks :grinning:

Iā€™ve not had to buy any toms for weeks, still harvesting a few a day, though soon the green ones left wonā€™t ripen so I think Iā€™ll just freeze those for soups/stews.

Any good crops for you?

I managed to grow sweetcorn this year. Only 4 decent sized cobs from 9 plants, but I had enough for a couple of meals and some for the chickens!

I grew too many tomato plants so have been harvesting kilos for weeks! Your freezer is full of soup and frozen tomatoes! Iā€™ve never grown much before.

Peppers have been a complete dud, with few flowers and not one pepper!

Looks like a tasty crop :slightly_smiling_face:

Really pleased to hear people have been getting on well with their crops, especially their tomatoes. How blimin expensive is a decent tomato these days!

Itā€™s been my first year with an allotment and itā€™s certainly been a learning experience, one which will pay dividends next year. (Yup, pun intended)

Weā€™ve had a fantastic bounty of potatoes (Charlotte), some of the best tasting Iā€™ve ever had. Courgettes and cucumbers have both done well. Sadly the tomatoes all suffered from blight/mould/dampness which was very upsetting as they were doing so well, hey ho onwards and upwards.

Nice. Iā€™d love to find potatoes that taste as they did when I were a lad.

Did you use pig manure?
