Monzo is not primarily crowdfunded. It’s raised £325m… under £25m from the crowd.
TIL!
(filling up chars)
AJ Bell has done really well since listing! There’s a certain status in being a listed stockbroker, having your shares listed on competitor platforms.
Imagine investors on Hargreaves viewing a Freetrade IPO! It would create loads of switching from the extra awareness and increased trust in the brand!
It’s obviously a way off and it might not be best for shareholders, but there is an argument in Freetrade doing an earlier IPO
Any estimates or insider information about when Freetrade will IPO
At least another three years
So Freetrade targeting an IPO or listing via SPAC in the next 2-3 years … That would be unreal
Straight from the horses mouth,3 years. I guess once you have built the foundations it takes a 10th of the time to replicate it in other markets. So I guess that’s where @adam is coming from. The company can then be 100% customer focused and just needs to maintain and tweak the product(the app and desktop) as they grow.
We can have an IPO party on my 30th birthday. What a treat
Hopefully not a zoom one
I think now because of Covid and the Sweden failure that the IPO will now be in 2026/27
I think freetrade needs to grow to 6bn AUA to get to 600m valuation . I believe they will go IPO after they reach unicorn, which should be more than 10bn AUA. Long way to go.
I think you are right. The IPO is few years away.
I don’t think there will be an IPO, ever. Not sure I will ever get my money back, not because Freetrade will fail but because I think it will live in private equity for the next forever+ years.
Acquisition is the only option I see.
Stephen since I’m new to this and I know all of you who helped fund freetrade at the start are waiting for an exit which I know means a profit from your initial investment.
What were you called as people who help fund at the start were you crowd funders but got in earily? Or are you founding members? Or
I did have a read on founders vs Co founders.
If freetrade was bought buy another company what does that mean for your investment? And I guess for anyone who put money into freetrade? Do you need an ipo for you to make money on your investment?
Sorry for the questions just interested.
I was fortunate enough to invest in rounds 3/4/5 so no matter what happens(obviously if Freetrade don’t fail completely) I will/should recover the money I invested.
I would hope and pray that Freetrade do everything in its powers to make sure the investors who paid £9.25 get their money back.
As an early investor I think my official title is Founding Member, rather grandiose I know.
If Freetrade is acquired by another company then I imagine my position as a shareholder will have a number of options.
Firstly, if I recall correctly, I think the company needs to be acquired for at least £200 million for any chance of a return, below that I get nothing.
Assuming we are acquired for a good sum then anything from being forced to sell to having the option of shares in new company or partial shares and cash etc. who knows.
What I do know is that if I’d taken the money 3 years ago and just stuck it in a global tracker I’d probably be up by at least 30% by now instead of now being in limbo with no horizon for exit.
This has really messed up my retirement plans if I am honest, and forced me to continue working and saving hard, but fingers crossed I might be proved wrong in a year or two.
While @adam is a multi millionaire living on his farm, set for life. Me? Envious?Never! I’ve got 6000 shares for my £10,000 investment which if I had invested in the S&P 500 2019/20 would be worth approximately £14,000 now!
That’s the risk of crowdfunding in start-ups.
Hoping Freetrade will come through to fund retirement plans shouldn’t really be on any investors hitlist.
Retirement should be about sensible planning!
R3/4/5 investor here.
Irrespective of the exit method, I fully expect to be left with scraps at best after the institutional investors get their pound of flesh.
