Megathread - Crowdfunding

Anyone interested in Penfold’s upcoming crowd round? Penfold is crowdfunding! Goes live this week apparently. Not sure what the valuation will be. Their seed 2 years ago was £8m valuation

City mapper is crowd funding, anyone any thoughts?

It will be a feeding frenzy. So many users will invest but I do worry about how they can scale their monetisation.

Great @crebbo !! I have the same doubts regarding Crowdcube success fee in our case. Please share the findings!

I suspect each round will be tackled individually as ultimately any return will be calculated by round. So you wouldn’t pay the success fee for early rounds but would on any new one from now.

Judging by my current back and forth they have no idea

yes it has been smashed their target

Secret Cinema are planning a crowd cube funding round.

I don’t have any idea whether this is a good investment opportunity, but I have attended a couple of their events which were pretty good.

I might drop a few spare pounds into this one just to support them without any expectation of a return on the investment.

What would you give them out of 10? How many have you been to? Can I ask how much the tickets were? Would you go again?
I’m thinking of investing also. Thank you

I’ve not read the pitch deck but including “£100bn of user transactions analysed” is a almost entirely pointless [insert big number here to impress people]
Has anyone here got first hand experience with Emma or invested in previous rounds?

Wow! I didn’t expect a reply from the top of the C-Suite.

I look forward to seeing the road map when it goes live.

“£100bn of user transactions analysed” - It does signal that they have data and can process a significant amount of data.

Some better data points would be how quickly they helped hundreds of thousands of people reduce debt or improve their relationship with money or save up for the things that matter to them.

What I remember of EMMA is Edoardo was very quick in replying and trying to resolve any issues you had. This was back in the early days, also they’d push changes quickly, and at the strangest of times. I got the strong impression they were all in on the idea.

Surprised no one has mentioned EMMA’s plans on entering the ‘Free stock trading’ space

Free stock trading, Crypto, Payments and Credit Scores are just some of the features we plan to release next, with the aim to make Emma the control centre of your money.

On the Crypto note, I sort of shrug when people mention they are adding crypto. It’s such a wide ranging term, like what are they doing. Is it just adding your crypto wallets, can you buy/sell crypto, will you own the crypto directly, will you be able to transfer crypto, will you be able to stake it, will you be able to participate in DeFi*, etc etc. By the way the DeFi yields are absolutely bonkers.

Fair point, I suppose I might have been a little quick to judge. I read all crowdfunding pitches with a cautious eye especially when large numbers are used for the sake of their size. Think I got this one wrong and will chalk up one for the L column.

Been a long time Emma user, spoken to you via support chat quite a few times haha! Looking forward to investing in you, I must admit it was a very happy surprise when you added crypto wallet/exchange support
Thanks for coming on here to chat, when will docs be available?

Money dashboard is by far the best out of Emma,Plum etc. has won plenty of awards. Magnificent App and desktop version and at the moment has over 30 crypto companies connected and all for “FREE”

I use Money Dashboard too, I find it a bit more clunky and the UX isn’t the best… keep getting logged out and inconsistent notifications

Awesome! Thanks :hugs:

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Emma in the past before but haven’t used it myself, I track my own finances manually with google sheets.

However because I’m interested in investing I’ve downloaded it to try the product before investing using the free trial of Pro. I’ve noticed Freetrade isn’t supported yet. Neither is Ford Money (been around a few years) or EverUp (I’ll let you off because they’re still in beta). Can’t tell where to add my Mortgage (West Bromwich).

Love the fact that I can upload my Coinbase and Binance accounts, maybe now you’re raising on Crowdcube, that’d be a nice integration too?

Anyway these are my initial thoughts after only integrating and using the app for around 20 minutes. I’ll have a bit more of a play around to understand the app better and see what notifications are like when payments come in etc.

Love the fact that @edoardomoreni is on here and commenting, I’ve taken a brief look at the Emma community forum and can see you’re quite active and listening to customers too. I just hope that the you don’t have a high valuation like some other fin/tech/fintech companies who have recently crowdfunded have done!

Does anyone know about “Q Doctor” potential exit?

Just seen a an exit on Equity Crowd Expert’s news feed that they’ve been acquired. They raised £1m+ on Seedrs in Jan 2020. Any investor around?
