How visible was it without using a camera?

Over Belfast last night. Almost invisible until photographed.

Actually that is a good point because at first with my eyes I noticed a slight colouration in the sky and it took a while to see it but when I looked through my camera it was, as you see above, spectacular - Iā€™m sure a more scientific minded person can explain why my camera was able to pick up more of the colour than my eye could.
