Transfers - US Fee Collection

Does anyone know how the £17 per US holding is collected when transferring out of FT? For example, should I make sure I have £17 cash in my cash holding within my S&S ISA to cover the transfer of say a $AAPL holding? Or do FT sell part of your holding to cover the fee? Or another way…thanks

I would personally hold on for now. See if this fee changes after IG takes over.

I can’t see them making it any easier or cheaper to transfer away considering the backlash.

Doesn’t hurt to wait and see. Worst case scenario you lose nothing but time, best case IG offers greater care in regards to consumer duty to deliver good outcomes for retail customers. We live in hope

Just one other point, I’ve been a customer since day one. I was in the first batch of Freetrade users, I was one of the first non-employees to try Freetrade, and I can categorically tell you that the first I heard about the US shares fee was this week on this forum. It’s news to me. We’re getting ahead of ourselves here but I’d push Freetrade to show when and where they clearly informed us about this fee. It’s a regulated company so they’ll have a log of events supporting their position.

I’m sure I read that this wasn’t a fee for FT but one they have to pay on our behalf? I’ll see if I can find it. Still would like to know how to pay the fee.

I joined just over two years ago and I’m sure it wasn’t in there at that time, so must have been added in a recent T&C refresh.

Hey all - just to clarify this is a fee charged by the US central securities depository for any transfers of stock. The DTCC charges this fee per line of stock transferred. We are just passing this fee on to customers, we don’t take anything from it.

As far as I’ve seen, we can give customers options to pay out of cash in their account, debit card, or by selling stock to pay the fee. It’s worth clarifying that with customer service before transferring though.

Best,
Alex

Would be good to know when this was introduced or communicated as I can’t recall a fee being mentioned

Update following chat with FT customer service: as part of the transfer process, they will ask the user how they would like to pay the £17 US holding fee. Unfortunately there is no documentation covering this process.
