Anyone learned any new hobbies/skills during lockdown?

Morning everyone!

A few people I know have spent their time in furlough skilling up, either out of boredom or out of fear of a looming unemployment boom.

I’ve personally dabbled in a few things, but my main achievement was taking a marketing course, learning GraphQL and using those two things together to build and ship a new product!

It’s early days yet and I still work on it every single day, but I’m really hoping to use the time on my hands to build something for the years to come.

Also spent way too much money on warhammer models to paint  but then… I’m still a kid at heart. What about you guys?

Yes, I have learned so many new skills and improved myself. Probably the main one is I’ve taught myself Python programming from scratch and I now have an Investing stock league game running live in a server with people playing it! I’m just gonna plug it here , feel free to join, anyone and let me know if you have any questions:

Edit: I thought I’d include a screenshot, controlled by commands in Discord

I joined Freetrade during the lockdown and have learnt how to invest. (Interestingly, Innoticed that freetrade had a large amount of new sign ups during this time as well) .I have been diligently reading on how to invest and getting tips from the forum.
Also, perfected my baking skills lol and can make a delicious moist banana cake ( I know I’m blowing my own trumpet lol)

I’ve learned the ancient art of bookbinding. My family think I’m quite mad… very therapeutic but you soon realise that you don’t need this many books in your life…

What tutorial/course did you use for python?

Hey! I am actually doing a Machine Learning course where they teach you Python first, on Udemy by a company called Zero to Mastery. However, they also have a straight Python course which I assume will be taught in the same way and uses the same instructor. This is it:

Send me a DM if you have any questions or anything. I basically learnt all the basics of Python in about 4 weeks, doing maybe 2 hours of learning a day, every day so 50-60 hours. I did my own small programmes and projects as well.

I’ve learned how much I dislike being around other people in real life! :joy:

I’m probably one of the few people that has enjoyed working from home on my own.

And of course, Freetrade! I only found my way into investing just before lockdown (despite my ā€œolderā€ years. Wish I’d started in my 20’s, but that’s hindsight for you!)

I have to say I feel the same! I’ve really taken to the bliss that is working from home and embracing a hermit life!
