Broken App

Profile screen not working, portfolio graphs not showing any data, unable to purchase in pre-market even though I’m a plus member. Thank god I haven’t received the Commodore 64 font yet, jesus!

Disgusting new desgin, and awful new owner who was happy to rip off retail investors.
I think we should plan finding a better alternative. My store with Freetrade will come to an end soon.

I had a message saying everything is fixed, but my graphs still aren’t working, profile still says something went wrong, and I can’t top up my GIA as the payment flow throws a wobbler straight away, magic!

Does FT not employ any testers? This new app is broken beyond belief. Putting aside the fact that it looks incredibly ugly, it just doesn’t work.

Going into the activity view sometimes shows a handful of my transactions, with some greyed out because it seems the new app is doing a request per transaction now instead of batching them. Attempting to scroll causes everything to go slow. Even just leaving it alone, the app will just crash within about 10 seconds. This is completely not fit for purpose.

Admittedly this phone is relatively old - it’s a few years old, with only 4GB of RAM, but literally this is the only app running on the phone. I keep my business banking app and Freetrade on this old phone that ONLY has these 2 apps installed, because I don’t want them to be on my main phone that could get lost or stolen.

But, the old app worked fine. Well, it was never great, there were lots of problems with the UI, like request a limit order and it was only 50-50 if it’d auto select the price field, often have to go back and re-visit a screen for it to work, but at least it was functional eventually.

Everything about this new app looks like you had some new junior engineer join the company and promoted to lead without ever having used the app, and sacked everyone who has more than a year of web or app development skills. To say it’s atrocious is putting it mildly. Even superficially, going for monospaced is a retro aesthetic I actually personally like, but not when the font sizes are seemingly randomly chosen and overly large. It’s also not even consistent with random sections of the UI appearing in the old font.

This app needs to be recalled immediately, reverted to the previous and then only re-released at a minimum when the show-stopping bugs are fixed.

Honestly, if I hadn’t just paid my annual subscription last month, I’d probably have just moved my ISA to another provider.

I agree. I am glad I do not have an ISA product with Freetrade to begin with. I hate the new app, and I started withdrawing everything from the General Investing Account. I will probably tell them to close the account (after spending 4 years with Freetrade).
