I’d say Slack is worse than McDonalds. Microsoft Teams is going to eat away at their growth potential

Perhaps. I’m a Slack user and can definitely see the upside. It’s one I’m willing to sit in and see what happens.

As a previous Slack user and current Teams user the only noticeable difference is no party parrot. Companies using Microsoft products already and not already on Slack? Teams here I come. Especially as it has built in support for powerbi and probably other Microsoft products

No slack at the company I work for, but in a recent O365 update, everyone got Teams automatically. I think this is going limit Slack’s growth potential.

Same for the company that I work for. The question will be if the MS features are the same or add more value than Slack. If they do, than there is no point in paying for 2 products at the same time

Depends how you work imo:

If you’re Microsoft Office heavy or need video / voice calling, it makes total sense to use Teams.

Slack is way ahead in other third party integrations though, feels more human.

Time will tell how it does. Microsoft could make Slack’s business unviable or Teams could flop ala Google+ or Bing (both came bundled with other stuff).

Of course they could both survive, the market is big enough!

“feels more human” is about as vague as you can get. What are these crucial integrations? When I used Slack we didn’t even use the /poll, we just did DIY which is easy enough. Slack has to integrate with Google Drive and Hangouts/WebEx (lol) because it only has a chat app. Teams integrates with SharePoint for storage and has built in voice/video chats for one-on-one or groups

Doesn’t seem like it’ll flop:

Teams auto starts when you turn on your PC. I’d be weary of quoting the daily active users.

Slack CEO Stewart Butterfield has been skeptical of how Microsoft determines the number of people using Teams.

“They’re not comparing the same thing when they say daily active user,” Butterfield told CNBC in an interview last week. He said that people who once used Skype for Business to make voice and video calls have been moved over to Teams.

Butterfield is not alone.

In a note to clients last week, DA Davidson analysts Rishi Jaluria and Hannah Rudoff cited increased “competitive intensity” from Microsoft, but said they suspect that the daily user tally for Teams includes instances in which the Teams app loads when a PC starts up. The analysts have a neutral rating on Slack.

We’re off topic now. So if it’s alright with you I’d like to stop, we’ll never agree and that’s ok.

Whether you are making video calls on Teams or spamming pointless gifs on Slack you are an active user. I don’t see using an important communication method in the app as fudging the numbers. When I asked a dev in another team a question he called me as it was faster and easier to explain with a screen share than screenshots and text…in Slack it’d be like “call me on zoom” and that call request would also be treated as being active

Slack also has autostart, both have the option to disable it but I think that’s pretty limited; I guess most people just lock their machines overnight whether they use Slack or Teams

Looking good @Richard we loose some, win some. Nature of the Beast, either a Grizzly or a Chicago. Keep faith and keep researching the right investments.

Haven’t done much in regards to my previous post but it truly feels good to see those numbers go up within a week. From £255 to now £287

It has that weird satisfaction feeling with it.

In regards to Slack, I gotta say it’s definitely slowly dying out. The amount of competition it’s receiving and with a fact that they provide much better services than Slack proves that it will just continue going down.

One way to put it might be that O365/Teams/Yammer/MS things do everything that G Suite/Slack do and much more, but seemingly every single thing is a little bit harder to use. In theory “works better” should be a differentiator for Google and Slack but I’d guess in practice it isn’t because MS’s sales capability looks a lot stronger.

How much cash are people keeping on the sideline? Since I transferred in my IG ISA (as cash) I’ve got 33% cash, which is way higher than I would ever normally have. However, with the General Election coming up, I’m wondering whether to wait a few more weeks. My current portfolio for context:

Yes, but barely enough to offset the exchange rate change for those of us with holdings based on dollars.

Has anyone sold investments to take profits ?
I remember in 2017 hearing the commentators saying S & 500 had hit its peak. The gains since then are huge. Just proves we can’t time the market.
Surely a big crash coming ?
