Further to this, if you build up £4000 in US stocks, the fx fee to sell and then buy again in the isa would be £36. So it can be worth it to have the isa with lower amounts aswell

Now that you mention it… the same principle applies for UK stocks due to stamp duty: £4000 in UK stocks, the stamp duty to rebuy in the ISA would be £20
