Megathread - Crowdfunding

I really like the idea behind GeoDB, team is pretty good too, I was about to invest in the previous round in CC but the pre money valuation was soo high for such an early stage company (Ā£10 million). I am wondering what is the new valuation for this round…

It’s going from Ā£10M > Ā£15M.

Interestingly there are 2 ways to make a potential ROI with these guys. In addition to the equity they also offer you a Geo token bonus per Ā£1 invested. Based on my calcs as an example if you had put down Ā£1K in both the original round and pre emption round you would have got a combined total of ~25K Geos as a bonus. They are currently trading at $0.25 each so they are worth ~Ā£5K. Interesting. Thats a paper return of 150% in 8 months. The Geos are subject to restrictions ie can’t sell them until later this year I believe but no plans to do that anyway and let this roll…

How is the GEO distribution being organised ? Has anyone received their tokens yet ?

I’m personally staying well clear of any Blockchain based start ups.
I don’t understand why you would want to invest in the company instead of buying the token on an exchange?
Travala.com was another one, I bought some tokens but didn’t partake in their crowdfunding.

I don’t think that adds up. By investing in the company, the Geo token bonus allows you to obtain Geo tokens for less than market value. The past two rounds were 40% (last round) and 70% (pre emption round) below current market value and even this round will be at 20% discount to market value I believe. So essentially you are already ahead on the Geos and whatever you get out of the company is pure upside. Risky sure, but massive upside based on 400% token price increase in first 4 months.

How do you determine 400% increase in token price? What exchange are the Geo listed?

Tropicfeel is in private mode and already overfunding:

Listed here: https://www.longbit.com/market/index/GEO-USDT

Initial opening price $0.05 (Sept 2019) > Current price $0.24

If the tokens are currently restricted then I would expect a huge dump in price once investors are able to sell them. It doesn’t take much liquidity to move the price of cryptocurrencies, especially the small cap ones on exchanges like Longbit.

The main issue I have is that most start ups fail and once you’ve invested it’s hard to ever see a return of your money. So if the success of a project is related to a token, I’d rather just buy the token and have the option to sell at any point.

Each to their own though, if you believe in the project then I can see how it would be appealing.

Magway is nearing the end of its campaign - seems like a promising company that has won a few awards and has gained government funding. It’s a company looking to influence delivery systems using low carbon emission pipe technology. Seems like a good idea to me! Thoughts anyone?

Anyone here invest in Coconut? I did (one of my bigger ones) and have huge hopes for these guys. Essentially a tool that can run a self employed person’s business, provide powerful insights and save days of time each year on accounting and tax. I think they are in the right place at right time with the right solution.

V good (would have been excellent without the slippage on 2019 actual vs forecast users) update today and super aggressive expansion plans for 2020 :fire::rocket:

Announced that in addition to a pre emption round they will be opening up a second raise on CCube in early March.

IMO Well worth a look :eyes:

Chunky Update: Seedrs edition

Sorry this one’s taken a while, i’ve been tied up with a related project. It’s been great to see the community uncover some raises well before i’ve finished my write up though, and even one that I wasn’t aware of! This community is ace!

So here goes: I met up with Joel Ippoliti (Chief Product Officer) and Nick Lawson (Marketing) at Seedrs recently.

As a result of this meeting, I got the inside scoop on some upcoming features and was immediately excited to relay this info to you guys and gals, here it is:

Secondary market:

  • ā€œMarket 365ā€ - the secondary market will be open everyday of the year (Trades will execute once a week or so, but the order can be made anytime)
  • Shares will follow an auctioning price mechanism, meaning more mutable prices, and potentially greater liquidity
  • Seedrs are building in the capacity to buy/sell shares from off-platform companies. This has game-changing potential: One could buy/sell shares from option pools and/or VC secondaries
  • Rather than buying the entire share lot someone has put up for sale, you will be able to buy part of it. Not unlike fractionals.

Pre emption club: Certain members of Seedrs will eventually gain access to all of Seedrs’ pre-emption campaigns, through a monthly newsletter. Work is ongoing.

Auto invest : This feature currently invests pre-determined amounts for you automatically, and is set to develop further to include selling capabilities.

CityFalcon partnership: CityFalcon is a financial news platform, currently displaying news related to crowdfunded business on Seedrs’ website. This partnership is set to evolve, with Cityfalcon looking to integrate Companies House filings into the feature.

Portfolio Update: a comprehensive document containing statsitics on their funded companies. Their last update revealed that 577 deals had been completed, and their aggregate IRR was ~12%. The next portfolio update is slated for H1 2020.

Seedrs App

The Seedrs app is in the prototype phase, here is a screenshot:

Having used the app prototype, I think it’s great, very slick - even for a prototype. It looks set to have the functionality of the site, with the simplicity and convenience you get in a mobile app. The depth of user research going into it only makes me more excited to see where the final product ends up.

Seedrs will also be launching a great new feature:

Here's some other sneak peeks

Direct investment feature, released recently:

More ā€˜sector’ pages will soon be added to Seedrs - there already is a sector page for fintech, and one for food & beverage. The new design looks ace imo:

Discourse forum:
Seedrs will also eventually be launching a discourse forum, much like this one; there is a wealth of wisdom scattered around the Seedrs forum in private shareholder threads, so a unified, public forum on the site could end up a valuable resource!

For the Seedrs shareholders out there: Seedrs will be announcing a £15-20m institutional round later this year. Whilst this is old news, it was reassuring to hear things were still very much full steam ahead on this front.

News

  • Gohenry, the Gen Z neobanking startup, is in the final stages of closing a major VC round that will accelerate their US expansion.

  • Sono motors, a German seedrs-funded Electric car startup, raised an incredible 50m eur in around two months. The funds were raised to get the business to their next milestone from profit share instruments, car deposits and donations following a collapsed institutional investment round,

  • Bux, the 2nd best neobroker in the netherlands, acquired social crypto platform Blockport

  • CityFalcon loses major contract (rumoured to be from Revolut), after the partnering fintech’s legal team was weary of CityFalcon’s financials.

  • Bnext already has around 100k Mexican customers, having soft-launched only weeks ago, forecasting 1m users globally by year end. It’s competitors (Nubank, Uala, etc) are also doing well however.

The product looks great, however the market is getting smaller due to IR35 legislation which is forcing a number of self-employed/limited company’s/personal services companies into PAYE either via a permanent position, a temporary ā€˜permanent’ position or via an umbrella company all of which means there’s no requirement for an accountant/software alternative.

Great update! Thank you.
On the secondary market and off Seeders ownership. You wouldn’t be able to trade CC raised equity though presumably?
I really think CC are falling dangerously behind with their reluctance to build a secondary market…

I was interested to invest, but did not see any EIS / SEIS… :frowning:

6 posts were split to a new topic: Coconut crowdfunding

Really excited to hear more details about this as a long term backer of GoHenry - hopefully they are really on the cusp of significant growth in the US…

They are a Spanish company, so no EIS, as this is a British scheme.
