Yeah I expected the login to persist when I switched back as usually it does for a few mins, but for some reason that’s changed.

I’ve been following your videos mate since signing up. It’s great for me to see what level of account you need to return that sort of dividend per month. I currently work a second job so want my dividends to eventually take the place of that, essentially buying time.

Looking at your portfolio I should reach that figure by the first quarter of next year, which is motivational and inspiring!

Keep hustling and I’ll be sure to follow your progress :+1:t3:

Hey Jamie, thank you for the comment… much appreciated!

You may be able to get the dividend sooner, just depends on your holdings more than the balance. Many of my holdings don’t pay a dividend, as it wasn’t my primary focus.

All the best with your journey!

Yeh I could aim for a higher yielding portfolio but I’m in it for the long term, so would rather study the financials of the companies and pick out some middle tier dividend payers and take it from there.

It’s all a learning process, one that I’m very much enjoying

Very wise!

And I couldn’t agree more - great learning curve which is very enjoyable!

Interesting to hear about the Taylor Wimpey special dividend, I might buy on Monday before ex date to receive the payment and take a chance on selling back soon after :face_with_monocle:

I reckon a few people will do that. I think Persimmon has a 10% special dividend around the same time too.

Yes fair play mate appreciate your advice. My thought process was that the money is already in my account for investing; if it goes to plan I make £64 and sell (So we are not talking about bankruptcy amounts). If the proverbial hits the fan then the stock becomes a buy and hold part of my portfolio and I keep it until brexit is long gone.

Taylor Wimpey has been a cracking share for me - 62p / share in dividends in the last 4 years, more than the shares originally cost.

Ah so is there question that the dividend may not be paid?

I am not fully intent on doing it but at the time my naive investing mind was thinking of some easy money to reinvest into my portfolio. Of course if it was so simple everyone would be rich from doing the same I guess.

I think the share price can rise just before the ex-dividend date and then fall after an ex-dividend date by the amount per share of the dividend or more (as in lots of people buying then selling the share) So that you don’t actually make much overall. Something like that. I’m sure @ytsruh will say it more articulately.

Yeah, assuming an efficient market the share price will fall by the dividend amount as soon as it goes ex dividend, it’s just worth that much less. as a retail investor you’ve no chance of timing your sell before this drop. Dividend investing is a longer term strategy not a quick flip

Interesting thing I was reading earlier about following a dividend strategy

Appreciate that mate, and in all honesty I am a little naive when it comes to this. Having this community here to post my stupid questions and receive guidance is invaluable. It is much appreciated :+1:t2: Would be even better done over several beers I think!

What do you mean? @ytsruh I took a chance and bought some anyway :grimacing:

Ex div is the 6th. I thought I would add some to my portfolio anyway and hold as they look good on research. Nice looking “snowflake” on simplywall street :face_with_monocle:

Maybe a little dividend to reinvest and some diversity to my portfolio :+1:t2:

Yes the Ex Div is tomorrow 6th.

Therefore, you need to buy the additional shares by market close today for them to be counted within the next special dividend.
