This is a pictorial example of @JimmyJ’s point from last week with royal mail. They announced a special dividend on top of the usual one which together we’re worth 26p and as if by magic on the dividend date the price finished -25p.
When ‘we’ value a company lots of things get taken into account including how much cash they have, if they agree to pay out £200m (for example) it’s fair to reduce the valuation by… You guessed it £200m.
