Report to the financial ombudsman.
Aegon transferred my sipp to freetrade fine but it was in cash, which probably makes things easier. Worth considering?
I always wondered about SIPPs, Do you people just take a percentage of your wages and pick stocks you want? Do you miss out on employer contributions or can you get them to add to your SIPP?
SIPPs don’t replace employer pensions. there’s I would assume three main reasons to have one. first being self employed; second being to collect your previous employers pensions into one place you control; third being to supplement your current employee pension (probably a combination of 2+3)
Ahh so that would be hard for me because then I would need to like half my standard account to then pay into a SIPP as well? Maybe a future look.
I know many of you who max out your isas then pay into a SIPP, but even with me giving up tons of my everyday life money to save into my isa, and not buying anything, going holidays, doing pretty much nothing accept riding my sports bike and scooter etc I do t really have much spare something like £120 ish to do activities per month.
The max I can put into an isa per year is 10k a year and that’s me really trying.
SIPPs can also be good if you have a higher rate tax as you can claim an additional 20% back.
but generally you’d contribute to your employer pension first to the max that you get matched by your employer. then if you did want to contribute more you can either add more to your employer pension (unmatched) usually, or open a sipp.
the other alternative is some people will periodically transfer their employer pension funds to a SIPP because it gives them more options and may be cheaper. (ive done this in the past, done a partial transfer of my employer pension)
Sweet, thanks for the information. I guess for now since my freetrade account is actully bigger than my employee pension at age 35 I will probably just stick with my game plan of ramping up my isa.
My goal is to get to 100k one day if everything goes to plan this could be done in under 10 years.
Its my only drive at the moment and it’s funny that I don’t even know why I’m doing it, I just am.
You dont need to know the end of the story, you just need to know you want to read the next page
Hi, bringing this back to the subject - has anyone else had any problems transferring their old pensions to the Freetrade SIPP?
I have a few old workplace pensions, including from Aegon, that I’m wanting to transfer. What hoops will my old providers make me jump through?
I haven’t had any and I’ve moved from Scottish widows & vanguard.
I’ve had some that I think are related to the post below. I had to fill out forms from my current provider.
I do partial transfers now and then. The latest one has been rumbling on since March, unfortunately. In the end, I think the request got cancelled by Scottish Widows so I’ve had to start from scratch.
Hopefully, pension transfers will be back to running like clockwork before too long.
Thanks for flagging this @rehpot. I’ve looked into the issue here and it’s unrelated to what you had experienced. We’re aware of the delays other providers are putting in place and the justification that they are sharing with customers. We’re going to follow this up and try to get a resolution.
Scottish Widdows took months to make the transfer to Freetrade for me. They required me to fill in an exam on a short deadline where it felt like I was guaranteed to fail and them refuse to make the transfer. When I rang them up, their customer service couldn’t explain what was holding up the transfer. In the end they made the transfer this last week.
