Why so few ESG/ Growth ETFs?

Hi all, I’m new to Freetrade. I’ve been a bit surprised that whilst the platform has lots of ETFs there are very few Growth or ESG type ETFs. Is there a reason (other than lack of demand) for this? Feels like there must be so didn’t want to spend too much time trying to identify ā€œbestā€ options to suggest

What ETFs were you looking at that are missing?

Hi @lukethefool are there some London listed ETFs you’d like us to add? We’re more than happy to add new ones if there’s one that’s missing.

We’ve got several dozen though I can’t say we have all ESG related ones listed in London.

Let us know!

Ah they need to be London based? That’s the kind of guidelines I’m trying to look for. I found some mention in other threads about potential minimum sizes of funds too? Having seen that something like $CIBR exists I hadn’t spotted that whilst in USD it’s still actually on the London market.

I’ve just been hunting around for ideas of what to investigate in more detail. But when I find an article like this it turns out none of the funds mentioned are available through Freetrade (they are all US ETFs): https://www.fool.com/investing/stock-market/types-of-stocks/esg-investing/esg-etfs/

ETFs must be UCITS regulated funds. Consumer investors in Europe aren’t allowed to invest in non UCITS ETFs. That’s why you won’t see US funds anywhere on consumer brokers

CIBR is on Nasdaq which is probably what you originally saw. There is a different ucits version of the etf

But there’s also other cyber security ETFs already on Freetrade Ā£ISPY, Ā£CYSE etc.), just fyi, as it’s possibly you’ve been looking at US ETFs and thinking Freetrade doesn’t have any of these big funds

That was more of an example of just searching for ā€œETFā€ and realising that most are in Ā£ but not all.

So London-based and UCITS regulated. Any other restrictions?

If I search for DXJA I find the distributing (DXJP) rather than accumulating fund.

Nothing like 500P though https://www.justetf.com/en/etf-profile.html?isin=IE00BMDPBZ72

Or SEMG https://www.justetf.com/en/etf-profile.html?isin=LU1900066033

Sorry I’m just trying to get my head round it since so far I feel like I’m wasting lots of research time when the ETFs don’t exist on Freetrade. It feels like if I can understand what is possible to be added first, then that can be my first filter against funds - there’s no point getting excited, spending time researching and then requesting a given fund if there’s something fundamental that means it physically can’t be added to Freetrade. Cheers for all the pointers so far!
