Is it/will it be possible to integrate portfolio values into Yahoo Finance? I have it with my Interactive Brokers account, so I can see portfolio totals and gain on a widget without needing to open the app. Thanks
I would give an udder for this.
I recently went through the process of downloading my Freetrade activity, downloading the Yahoo Finance template file and then arguing with ChatGPT until it managed to sort them out and get my FT history (or most of it) into Yahoo.
@CashCow that does sound like an effort. I know you can manually add holdings onto Yahoo but hoping FT will reply positively
AJ Hell canāt even give me an all time transaction history as a CSV! They can only provide a heavily stylised PDF. If I want a CSV then I have to manually export it 1 year at a time and then merge them all.
I hate AJ Hell.
I imagine FT have no interest in this. They want to have people on their app. They donāt make money if people are on Yahoo Finance. As far as priorities go this wonāt even be on the list.
@SlimShadey Yahoo Finance isnāt a trading platform. So it wouldnāt steal any revenue from ft
Forgive the dumb question but I am not a user of this Yahoo service. What is the benefit? What can you see in Yahoo Finance after uploading this data (what data? portfolio holdings?) that you canāt see elsehwere?
Honest question. Not a backhanded snarky comment. @hazed @CashCow
tl;dr - I use Yahoo Finance for research and Freetrade for deals
You can save multiple portfolios - in my case my Freetrade ISA and AJ Hell LISA. It means I can see everything at a glance and a total overall figure which is nice.
Plus the data that Yahoo Finance has is above and beyond anything that Freetrade has or should ever aspire to have. There are also news articles listed against each stock which can be interesting too - once you filter out the AI generated slop from Motley Fool.
Hereās a random ETF as an example - iShares Global Clean Energy ETF (ICLN) Stock Price, News, Quote & History - Yahoo Finance
I think it would be a mistake for FT to dedicate resources to replicating the kind of service Yahoo Finance provides when they could just setup an integration to sync my Freetrade acitivity to Yahoo Finance for a tiny fraction fo the cost and effort.
Perhaps I just waffled on too much about what Yahoo Finance does rather than what integration would offerā¦
Hereās an example of the holdings page once Iād manually added my Freetrade activity. It also works the same for my Watch List so I can see how amazingly well the stocks that I donāt buy are performing. I particularly enjoy watching those and all their happy investors travelling to the moon whilst my investments crash and burn.
And to make that Yahoo portfolio did you/do you import a transaction list or a high level portfolio summary? Assuming transactions as you said āactivityā
(asking as I see several avenues here::: 1. Yahoo fiance APIs are wide open and exposed and can be used by anyone with a little tech know how. So could replicate all this without the need to import to Y! Could be ran in Excel or G Sheets. 2. The ātransformationā step from Freetrade identifier (ticker) to Y! Identifer (ticker plus exchange suffix) is not too hard to automate ā so could be done for FT, AJBell, T212 etcā¦) 3. FT could do it themselves easily if they wanted to)
So at itās core this is a Extract-Transform-Load issue. As are most things. I could probably do all this on a web app for ALL brokers in ALL formats given time. Not just to Y! Financeā¦ but to any other platform/service/app.
@haggis_mince whatever @CashCow said I concur
Obviously.
My point is if you are in Yahoo Finance you arenāt on the Freetrade app.
They want people on the app.
