How should Freetrade boost the growth of this community?

You could start by sharing the careers post that freetrade put out on Linkedin 2 weeks or so ago.

It can only make a difference if the community is engaged. 2-3 people posting unfortunately donā€™t make a difference.

Also the mentioned post does not explain what FT is and seems to be oriented to people that a are familiar already. It is just a link to the careers page if I am not missing anything. The post got 44 likes vs 8K followers on LinkedIn.

If you share it (a simple link to the job openings page of some company without any additional info) most people will skip this asking themselves why did you post this.

Update: not sure if it is technically possible but may be some sort of a prize might be given out to people , who successfully referred candidates and they have passed a trial period, they might be offered some return for their effort (Tesla or Apple shares?). This has been offered to employees at my current employer (more like the money equivalent of ~16x current Tesla share price for some specific job openings) and has really pushed people to go out and talk to their network.

To be frank, this forum used to be the place for finding out about the latest news on all things Freetrade but that is no longer the case.

Iā€™m seeing stuff shared on Instagram or Twitter first (by team members or FT accounts) and then MAYBE they will be posted up here after (todayā€™s sneak peak of a new feature a good example).

In addition to this there has been a reduction in engagement by the FT team on this forum the last few months.

I donā€™t have a problem with any of the above, but Iā€™ve personally found myself less likely to check this forum as a result.

I agreeā€¦ donā€™t feel like the FT team are as engaged with the community compared to a few months ago.
Perhaps itā€™s down to them being busy developing new features or maybe down to the summer holidays and less people around.

This is an awesome idea!

Iā€™ve attached some banners below which weā€™d love anyone to share, if they liked, on social channels, along with a link to:

*Plus-themed banners to follow

Weā€™ll also consider the incentivised idea though that may be tougher to implement.

We are looking to expand this series as we speak. Stay tuned.

Thatā€™s a fair point.

Weā€™ve been extremely busy over the last few months on a number of things, like adding hundreds of new stocks, preparing the launch of our new Invest Hub, and also a lot of holidays across the team ā€” these are now over and we are back!

However, we want to do more to continue to make this forum the heart of Freetradeā€™s community, and weā€™re reading and taking on board all of our suggestions on this post. Thanks again for sharing them all.

We have some very cool stuff coming up ā€” including MWRR which our beta testers have had their hands on for a few days now ā€” and weā€™ll be sure you see those new items here, first.

I would be worried if the team is engaging with the forum often when there is so much needs to be done to improve the app. So I donā€™t mind the current trade offā€¦

Agree with this if big members of the team were constantly posting in the forum people might wonder why they are spending so much time on the forum instead of working on the app. It is always nice to see the team on the forums but their reduced activity makes sense with all the new stuff coming out and being worked on.

Separate stock requests from everything else. Too much of this community is taken up with noise generated by requests.

Agree with this a lot!

I donā€™t understand why itā€™s even needed - FT have the data on what people are searching for in the app.

Agree with the above comments that less engagement isnā€™t necessarily a negative as it means the team are busy.

The more important point I was making is that we were always told ā€œyouā€™ll hear about it first on the forumā€ and that just isnā€™t the case anymore.

I enjoy the discussions had on this notice board, but going forward i (personally) am not sure it is the correct medium for a Company that is growing and one day hopes to be very large.

Instead I would expect to see more focus given to mainstream social media sites where discussions can seep into other peoples feeds. At the moment people have to come to this site to see discussions but if this were happening more and more on Twitter (example) then all it takes is one retweet etc. and you potentially open up to others who may not have heard about Freetrade.

I donā€™t think we are in a privileged position anymore as early adopters to always be the ā€˜first to knowā€™ - Freetrade is too big now, how many users? 250,000+ (i havenā€™t kept up) , that many people arenā€™t coming here for their info and to read the discussions I donā€™t think.

Yeah fair points - as I said earlier, I donā€™t have an issue with it but I think it has to be recognised that the community forum will lose engagement because itā€™s no longer the place to go.

It would be great if Freetrade could encourage more Deep Dives, some of the old ones are excellent!

A possible idea Iā€™ve just thought of is on the FT app in the description section maybe include a direct link to the thread of that stock on the forum if one is already up and running. While if the stock does not have a forum thread already existing encourage users to create a new one for discussing the stock theyā€™re interested in. I feel this could possibly increase the reach of this forum to more of the FT user base, giving them a place to discuss stocks theyā€™re interested in. The majority of the people on the app likely arenā€™t too aware of the forum but if they were directly linked to it when looking at stocks theyā€™re interested in it could spike engagement.

It could also lead to maybe in the far future having forum stock discussion threads linked and integrated to be accessed and posted on within the app so users donā€™t have to actually leave the app. Though this is likely a long shot and not sure how this fits with FTā€™s vision for the future app.

The majority of my friends are using Trading212. I know this app is relatively new but the quality of charts over there blow Freetrade out of the water. None of them would switch, except to claim the free share.

Growing our social channels has definitely been a big focus for us this year.

One of the key parts of our growth strategy is growing our audience and amplifying word of mouth, and we can indeed reach huge numbers of people on social.

At the same time, the discussions happening here on the forum are truly unique and canā€™t really happen elsewhere ā€” it really is the heart of Freetrade, and the team read each and every post, even if weā€™re not always interacting.

Our beta tester group has also been hugely important over the last year or so and we still have a waiting list of hundreds to join that. Weā€™ll look to revamp that in future so more people can take part in testing new features.

So from our point of view, itā€™s about striking a balance of our efforts between using social and other channels to grow awareness of Freetrade and spending time making the community an amazing place to learn more about and discuss investing.

Which, of course, is really driven by you all anyway :raised_hands:

Cool idea! We are looking to get much more content in the app, for sure, and that would be a nice way of people being able to get straight into stock discussions.

Oh no. Please no. Not a Facebook group/page. Iā€™m happily removing myself from that toxic site!

Iā€™d much rather stick to the forum and for Freetrade to be in control of their own community instead of outsourcing it to a social network.

We agree. Weā€™re designing a different and better way to request stocks.

I also think it might be worth rethinking how people engage in conversations around specific stocks.

I love this forum for helping to shape the product, and understanding how FT is growing.

I think FT would get better engagement on stock discussions if this was integrated within the app (so it can be viewed by all active users).
