This is my first post 
The Log out function feels more like signing up for the first time rather than a two-factor authentication process. Am I assuming that Freetrade would rather we just close the app instead of using “Log out”?
I only discovered this after enabling fingerprint login for my Android this morning (excellent addtion to the app).

Yes the app was designed in anticipation that most users will stay logged in. There’s no need to log out for security because the app’s protected by your phone’s passcode & a PIN / fingerprint login.
There’s no harm in logging out either though, it’ll just take you a little bit longer to get into the app
