We'll start testing incentivised referrals (free shares!) within weeks 👯

Yes, as they haven’t opened an account yet, they would count as your referrals! Feel free to wait until we have the free stock referrals ready for you to sign them up and get them investing. We understand. :money_mouth_face:

Will their be oversight/checks?

The £1 minimum funding looks like it can be abused by a user

Funding is a requirement, but indeed all that can be done with £1. That’s Freetrade! :freetrade:

Definitely we’ll monitor how it all goes. That’s why we are going ahead with it as a test. :ok_hand:

Me, I think I referred 6 or 8 in the end but they may have just registered and not actually downloaded the app.

This might be the time to talk to them again. :innocent:

Victor, great idea and you could create some graphic templates that user could use with their referral code/pass to push on social as well as direct via email/messaging etc… just a thought to make it as easy for people to share on brand.

Best of luck with this anyway

This is great news but dammit, I was just showing Freetrade to a colleague yesterday who seemed genuinely interested and said he’d look into it more.

Wasn’t expecting this to happen anytime soon so if I had known sooner I’d have waited!

Either way June can’t come soon enough so that we can finally invest in FT without CC letting us down again :muscle:

Feedback: how about also giving us referral badges on our profile with different levels depending on how many we’ve referred?

I love the idea. Thanks!

Sounds great, the sooner the better. Any idea on how long the testing phase will last?

Already talked to a few people and they are keen to refer people as well, but won’t be eligible given not an investor in Freetrade.

I think incentivising referrals is incredibly important at this point of the Freetrade growth cycle.

I like the random element of stock allocation, but what about randomly selecting the stock from the users existing portfolio? This ensures i) the user wants to hold the stock, ii) the existing and new users are encouraged to analyse & invest, and iii) Freetrade can still distribute incentive stocks appropriately across users.

Interesting idea.

From an engineering perspective, it’s easier to select stocks from a static list of e.g. 30 (or 50, or 100) stocks than having to dynamically adjust that list based on the given user’s portfolio.

There are benefits to receiving a stock you never invested in before. It can work as a surprise that sort of helps widen the horizon: you can discover companies you never considered before.

At least a few weeks, but it’s possible that it will last longer. It depends on what we learn during this phase!

Are you considering to include ETFs in that list?

Larger stocks would also favour those with larger portfolios

Yes. I’m curious if our community would like that?

  • I’d be excited about ETFs :pancakes::moon_cake::cupcake:
  • I’d only be excited about companies :cake:

Although individual stocks might be more ‘exciting’, I think ETFs are a better way to introduce new users that might have never invested before. Imagine if you got a free stock that plummeted the next day? Even though it was free, it might scare new users. On the flip side, they may be over the moon if their stock jumps loads!

I prefer ETFs; but will there be restrictions? e.g. if you give me some turd can I switch it instantly? or you have to hold it so long?

10 sign ups = 10 free stocks?

All pointless for now though since the inferior mobile OS gets priority

Am pro ETFs for newbie investors.

However, from a business perspective, I would imagine stocks to more enticing .
