My freetrade dividend journey on YouTube

I see Vodafone are cutting their dividend by 40%.

Anymore videos in the pipeline Louis ?

With 5G being released, I can see this share price rising, how quickly it’ll rise I’m not too sure. Is anyone going to take a punt on this?

Dividend stocks, particularly those with a history of raising dividends over the long term, actually have provided better long term returns and less volatility than the market as a whole, at least in the US. Are we allowed to link to articles on other sites? There’s a lot of interesting research and discussion

Hi Richard I’ll be doing one early next week. My portfolio has had an overhaul with me changing to the isa. You’ll have to let me know what you think :+1:t4:

Which would you look into more?

There’s a study saying whatever you want though :stuck_out_tongue: here’s one saying beyond 20-30 it’s pointless https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Un9e5T0pxNI&t=6m52s

I remember some guy on CNBC/similar show in 2017 saying 1 bitcoin would be worth around $200k by 2020. These people brought on to shows like to cause a headline. That person who said about Tesla reaching $4k was probably trying to convince investors not to leave their fund after a drop in price

Interesting to follow; subscribed. Did Debenhams just disappear from the app? If so did you get some notification? How much did you end up losing on them?

Also, with future videos it would be interesting if you compared the current portfolio against the previous video e.g. you had £3.8k in AbbVie in April and was talking like it was done but then you randomly drop to £244 in the next video & I don’t think you mentioned why. The same with Pepsi & Verizon being sold when I thought you planned to build up stakes in them

Of course you have to limit yourself to reliable studies that either passed peer review or that you can check for yourself that the methodology is sound.

The study used for that video is actually a really famous one. And it does not say beyond 20-30 is pointless. That’s the spin of a fund manager who specialises in funds with very few companies in it, which thus have a relatively high concentration risk (especially when you take in to account weightings).

The study the youtube video graph came from essentially says that the number of companies needed to get most of the benefits of diversification varies by country, because it varies with the covariance of securities within that country. Yes, you do get diminishing returns.

Even the study I alluded to notes that 30 does get you most of the way there. But if you want to virtually eliminate the non-systemtic risk and be safer, 60’s the number to go for.

And do keep in mind this is all assuming an equal weighting in random stocks. The more weighting you might put toward favoured picks (or if you’re doing cap weighting), the more companies you’re going to need to drop the overall percentage of your top few companies within your portfolio to restore your benefits of diversification.

Any particular reason you see Lloyds rising to £3 - £5 ( at least a 5x jump ) ? It’s been roughly in the 50-80p bracket for the last 10 years. It’s a good dividend payer but a growth stock of that magnitude I would doubt.

LLoyd’s is just one those companies you buy with loose change  (until FT implements Fractional shares)

Am sure I explained that I had to sell everything in my portfolio so I could move to the investment ISA. Unfortunately freeware not able to transfer portfolio to portfolio so when it came to me repurchasing stock for my portfolio I decided to buy other stocks that whet on sale at the time. Also Abbvie Pepsi and Verizon are stock that I love and will purchase again but I have limited funds to purchase with. After I’ve bought more Home Depot and 3m I will most likely start with Pepsi :+1:t4:

Yes you mentioned you had to sell/re-buy into an ISA but that doesn’t mean buying completely different companies :stuck_out_tongue:
